The Flood Tribunal has revealed a nasty mess of corrupt dealings, but those who have wronged us all have done more damage than the Tribunal itself can correct. ''This week saw the publication of the Interim report of the Flood Tribunal, chronicling a sorry, shameful thirty-year tale of greed and corruption from the highest levels of government downward. The story emerges, slowly and stinking like some dead thing dragged out of water after long immersion, and we are revolted by what we see. Elected representatives, members of the legal profession, accountants and developers have colluded to get rich at the expense of both the people and that most powerful creation of collective intellect, the State. The pursuit of money by a small but influential group of people has, for example, left a lasting legacy in terms of planning and rezoning decisions which will affect for many years the ordinary citizen possessed of the simple desire to own a home.
