i had one cannadain telling me he wanted to go to belfast to join the RA! you dont have a clue! north america should sort out its own mess, its gettos, its poverty and gun violence instead of 'helping' cause their grandaddy was from mayo!
Where were the Oines of the world while catholics were being burned out of their homes by real honest to god fascists? Or while british military intelligence armed, finianced and other ways supported (eg intelligence etc) death squads were killing innocent catholics in the north? just 90 miles away? SITTING IDLEY BY!!! So take your "self righteousness and sanctity" and put it where it belongs. In the bung hole of that other "brave" middle-class irishman.. Bone head of U2... Friggin cowards....
Friends of Sinn Fein are no friends of Ireland and neither is the party itself. Disband the IRA and put an end to its mindless political analysis forever.
Where was Mike when time and time again innocent civilians we brutally killed, and disabled for life for some stupid dream of a magical united green island. Semtex is not a defensive weapon, its used by mindless cowards with no mandate whatsoever. Only a small minority ever supported the thugs. Get rid of the guns.
Dave asks where was I, re the use of semtex. Well Dave and to all the rest of the folks in the South who STOOD IDLY BY (you have still not answered to the fact that you all did stand and do nothing have you?) I will tell you where I was. I was 10 years old, an American citizen with parents from Co Tyrone and I WAS THERE in the north, being attacked by loyalist mobs. Again where were you all, for that matter, how many of the "left" here have even been to say.. Oh the Garvaghy Rd? My mother, a natural pacifist used to say, "my god what else do we have?" let us get DIRECTLY to the point here. The fact that oppressed catholics in the north have felt NO OTHER option but to take up armed struggle is a DAMNING INDITEMENT to the people of the south. Do I need to paint a picture here? you want peace, then work for justice. But then that is far too risky when it is only 90 miles away. It is far more glamorous to "protest" on israeli barbarity or for that matter US govt complicity in crimes agin humanity (both of which I agree with BTW) from the safety of a nice secure middle class suburb of say Dundrum or Rathfarnham. But say, the holy Cross in Belfast or the Short strand? heavens no, why we might have to cohabitate with "those elements" from a working class housing estate who are facing REAL Honest to God fascists not to mention british troops shooting children. The hypocricy of this should be very very evident. I wonder if some of you even get this???????? Or is the I'm all right jack attitude still prevelent?????
Thought so, none of the folks (like bone head of U2) who decry the IRA have EVER did a damn thing about the situation and conditions that created them. Hypocricy and flat out cowardice at it's worst
Same stupid rant has been made by the other side time and time again, and it still doesn't justify the mindless activity of the IRA, under which everyone suffered. The fact that you don't have the support you'd like in the South means clearly that you never enjoyed the mandate you and your fellow thugs claimed you had - while other tried to pursue their politics peacefully you stupidly thought it was alright to just pick up a gun or plant a bomb (very brave!). I'm glad Sinn Fein has finally realised the futility of its actions and signed up to a partitionist agreement. Anyway if we in the South are such traitors why do you still want to be in a united country. I certainly don't want to claim the same nationality as you and your scumbag IRA mates.
Dave,
hit the button too early.. sorry never mind, some folks will never get it... not even worth the time or effort
provies have been on ceasefire since 1997 Dave dumbo, the loyalist FRU/LVF on the other hand have continued murdering both innocent working class catholics and protestants, whilst unionists and the brit establishment turn a blind eye to the exploits of their LVF proteges, stormont has been suspended just becos unionist cant bear power sharing with catholics and socialists. unionists cant bear equal treatment for catholics and protestant socialists. the unionists establishment are just like spoilt lickle rich school kids, they cant bear to share their toys or playground with the poor kids from the district.
grow up gringo.
Ireland either 26 counties or 6 counties
is a rump of a diasporic people.
normal Voting rights were not accorded to citizens to stop support for the nationalist and republican movements.
I read Mike´s comments as a sign of the depth of feeling held by many Irish who have long left Ireland concerning the conflict and machinations especially of the early seventies.
I suppose a fresh look at the Dublin bombings and the subsequent burning of the British Embassy is too boring for those interested in "psy-ops"?
If he writes he was there, he was there.
And many of today´s commentators weren´t.
And many of today´s activists wouldn´t even have caught the "standing idly by" allusion.
And today Mike is a Green party activist, an ecologist in the USA.
Yet he still feels so strongly.
¿Why do you think that is?
Sinn Fein the great anti-imperialist force! Yet they do deals with and take money from the greatest imperialist power, the USA.
Sinn Fein the great Revolutionary party! Yet they take cash from big business in the USA, that must mean big business in the USA support a socialist revolution in Ireland!
A unitary Irish socialist republic would increase productivity and GDP and GNP for the Irish people as a whole and would represent the capitalistic ambitions of the Irish people as a whole.
This would be very much in line with many large business interests in the USA.
Since the beginning of the most recent NI conflict, the economic position of NI as a cheap labour resource within the UK was undermined.
Arguable the only sector which enjoyed noticable growth of revenue was the building / reconstruction and security trades.
These are represented at geo-political level by the party of the "industrial military complex" known to most as the American Republican caucus.
That is the thinking which informed many Democrat Caucus politicians support of SF throughout the 1970s to 1990s. Not only did the US Democrats feel "Irish" but also had many business plans for Ireland.
I and most other anarchists find those business plans quite awful. but there you go.
If you email me, I would be happy to furnish you with an exact list of proposed investment in the Irish states by U.S. Democrat politicians and their respective lobbies over the years.
And now could the normally well behaved SP activists stop being silly. Look at the SWM today they are posting about thier printer problems and gigs for the youngsters in Belfast and generally being in their own words "fraternal".

And Joe looks good on TV with his suit and ties, don't you think. The very model of a modern revolutionary TD.
viet vet FOAD.
viet vet, cuntstable liverpool dave d, i have your ip, your home address, i know where you work the route you take to work, who gives you a lift along the boucher rd
i have cultivated my persona for many years, noone asks why i moved to this god forsaken shitehole from liverpool, back in the early 90's, luckily donegal rd loyalists are very trusting and excepting otherwise they might think who the fuk am i and why the fuk did i move over here from liverpool.
lucky for me, donegal rd loyalists are thick otherwise they might ask questions.
Is there any chance that this website could be used as a forum for constructive communication? Perhaps as a medium through which all people living in Ireland could discuss possibilities for building a sustainable peace...without having to continue relying on politicians to invent half assed solutions for us. Maybe it's a pipe dream to think that citizens are capable of solving their own problems through intelligent discussion...but it seems like indymedia might have a lot of potential....just a thought.
Question,
You hit it right on the head on the possibilities and potential of Indy media. That is what this is. As for the spammers, trolls, flamers whatever title we give them. Screw them, they aint worth the time, effort or even emotional energy. Ignoring them is the best way for me.!!!!
I dont know why the Anarchists have started to bash the SP. OK I know there are ideological differences, but why are the anarchists starting to attack Joe Higgins?
From what I can see the SP are very dedicated and serious workers on the left in Ireland for a long time. So are the WSM.
What's up?
and I decided to give the SWiMmies my
"red block loved up space"
:they´re trying to get a printer for the young of Belfast and they´ll share it with everyone. and their geraldine got fraternal, and I thought the SP had posted the silly anarcho-FAQ why don´t we worry about bincharges or something, and Joe Higgins is a household name and we all know that now,
and I think that people outside of Ireland including Green Party Mike and myself have demonstrated an interest in the peace process.
and indymedia has lots of potential QUESTION is right. (that might be why you´re logging on no?)
and so what do you think should be the capital investment / sustainable development plan for the Irish peoples regardless of their ethnic affiliation or position of residency?
Or do I have to write again,
ok again;
the vast majority of Irish people have been excluded from the development of Ireland.
