Reclaim the Glen (Cork) - change of venue for tonight's public meeting![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The public meeting on the future of the Glen (Cork) has a change of venue due to a double-booking. The new venue is Newbury House, Mayfield tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm. The Glen Valley is one of Cork City's last remaining unspoiled habitats. It is home to a variety of flora and fauna including the last urban sand-marten colony in Ireland. All this is under threat from wealthy developers who want to build on a section of the Glen (also known as Gouldings Glen). This will, however, do irreparable damage to the entire river valley. The purpose of tonight's meeting is to provide information regarding the threat to the Glen Valley entironment and to this end the Reclaim the Glen Group have compiled a series of colourful maps and photographs showing some of the pressures on the local enviroment and who is responsible. These maps will be distributed at the meeting. The idea being for people to add their own ideas and to define what is important to them. The group is self-funded so the maps will be sold to cover costs. The meeting will be addressed by local activists from Reclaim the Glen and the Glen Valley Environmental Group as well as a representative of Cork Environmental Forum. |
