Saw AFRI Posters at junction of O'Connell St and Henry street Being removed. Surreal Non-Political Air in O'Connell St Corpo say maybe it is the Cops - Cops say maybe it is the corpo. This happened at approx 12.30. Myself and AFRI have informed the Gardai. |We are checking with Corporation at present what the reason for this is. Soon after dealing with Gardai and Afri I took a little walk and found that surreally there are no referendum Posters on OConnell st except for an unreadable folded over one of those ALDI style Yes Posters. Anyone know anything about this? I asked the longstanding doorman of the Gresham if this was strange. He seemed to think it was. I asked a corpo streetsweeper had his guys been doing it. He said no but thought that it was another corpo gang doing it. He said that as far as he knew - posters in O'Connell St had been declared illegal. We have now called the Corpo and they keep giving us different numbers to ring - no obvious awnser yea or nea - one of them said something about the litter act. When talking to store street I suggested that they could check footage from CCTV cameras to see who was doing it and if it was systematic? Govt Employees? Freelancers? Gardai? Corporation? When colour television came in first there was a mad burst of colour everywhere and posters, adverts, etc exploded with colour. Maybe these people think they're still fighting the 1972 referendum.
as you witnessed it; can i suggest you:
1. make a written complaint to the referendum commission requesting they access the cctv tapes. even if they are biased they will have to deal with your correspondence. copy the correspondence to dublin corporation, the taoiseach, vincent brown & phoenix magazine. (that way there is some chance of action.
2. make a written comlaint to the gardai & confirm that you are prepared to make a statement.(copy this complaint to the taoiseach, its his constituency, let them know its going to him) ask that they access the cctv materiel.
if they don't act on this , you will be in a position to go to the garda complaints board.
this might get some action.
During the general election there was an agreement amongst the parties brokered by the City Manager to keep a couple of streets, including O'Connell St, free of posters. When we started postering we weren't sure this still applied but over the weeks had come to the conclusion it didn't. Maybe they decided to kick it into action again.
With regards to that agreement, the referendum is not the general election, and the political parties are not the only ones entitled to put up posters.
Afri and LAN are not political parties, but have a right to express their views on the referendum.
The Garda CCTV station on O'Connell Street (near Royal Dublin Hotel) should have video footage
of the removal of posters, they are a CCTV centre, so while they have the tapes, you probably have to go to Store Street Garda Station to make the complaints.
I'm laughing so fucking hard.
Pat. thats right Pat is telling you about the correct course of action if you see someone take down a poster.
Thats right, Pat lets hurl abuse at anyone who suggests his behaviour ripping down posters is againist free speech and fascist.
Yes that Pat.
That Pat is now telling you the proper way to behave, and who to complain to if you see someone ripping down a political poster.
And we say the fucking muppet has no grasp of irony.
I am amazed at the above comments about the removal of posters from O'Connell Street. Why are you all so surprised? Do you not know it is illegal to put up these posters on telegraph poles?? I assume its the City Council staff who removed them, and they would have been totally within the law unless the persons who put them up had prior written consent from the Council. I know this is not enforced in 95% of towns, but that doesn't mean the City Council is wrong. Various towns do enforce this rule and I have even seen dozens of Circus posters being removed from poles in a provincial town some years ago. So don't be wasting everybodys time ... if you dont believe me check with www.gov.ie/ag
you are really a fool if you can't differentiate between (1)the pulling down of racists posters & (2) the corpo pulling down progessive posters.
as you appear to support the pulling down of afri posters, i assume you support a yes vote.
the pigs are getting hungrier
I say old chap your report is overdue. If you don't send it in right now you will get no remittance this month.
this is a jolly bad show you cad.
"I have even seen dozens of Circus posters being removed from poles in a provincial town some years ago."
Is this when you joined the Circus and became a clown?
OK guys, settle. I actually wont be voting yes, I'm a NO man, but I suppose you can try and insult me some other way.
You seem to miss the point .... it is a breach of the law to put up these posters without permission. Its immaterial what is on the posters, as I TRIED to explain about the reference to the Circus Posters. Anyhow, don't bother believing me, check with the apprpriate authorities as I am not going to waste any more time with Doubting Thomases.
Dublin City Council revealed today that William Finnerty has been appointed as their Information Officer on correct behavoiour and Deportment on O'Connell Street.
Eventually Mr Finnerety will be situated on top of the Spire. In the interim he will be located between the arms of the Larkin Statue.
There will be an offical unveiling of Mr Finnerty early in the new year.
Good man Dalek, I might even see you passing in your tardis when I'm on top of the spire! You and Desmond Connell having a great spin together!!!
Aaannyway, back to the original point. I personally witnessed three guys in Corpo luminous jackets taking down an SF No poster on the central island of O'Connell St at about 11.30 yesterday. Hope that clears up the identity issue!
I'm actually laughing at pats attitude of
"Censorship by these people is wrong"
"Censorship by me is okay" because I have the right and just world view.
Most of the worst human war crimes have been committed by people who believe their behaviour is necessary and just.
That doesn't make your behaviour right.
To live in a fair and equitable world we must allow everyone to speak and no object when others we support are suppressed but encourage the suppression of world views we disagree with.
I disagree with platform Pat disagrees with and I suport his positions but I think using fascists techniques to repress fascism is hyprocritical and wrong.
But you'll notice this man will tar and feather anyone who disagrees with him.
Frankly he's all to willing to embrace the tactics of his enemies because it's easy.
We're better than fascists because we believe better things than them and we don't feel necessary to stoop to their tactics.
Pat however will hurl abuse and attack the sexuality of anyone who disagrees with his worldview.
I wonder whos camp that makes the man closer to?
you really must be educationally subnormal; you are incapable of dealing with anything that does not have a simple yes or no answer. to you everything is black or white.
the icp posters stir up of racial hatred and contribute to an atmosphere which results in physical attacks on refugees.
the afri posters were progressive & were pulled down by agents of the capitalists state.
only a fool would fail to see the difference between these two sets of circumstances.
i have never attacked anyone on the basis of their sexuality.
however,i have certainly reffered to you as a wanker. if this is your chosen way of expressing your sexuality then i withdraw any aspersions i have cast upon that practise.
