category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday October 11, 2002 16:24author by Pat C Report this post to the editors

News Flash SIPTU Dublin Regional Conference has called for a No to Nice vote by 184 votes to 134. Des Geraghty is no doubt climbing the walls & howling at the moon. It is believed that David Beggs, General Secretary of ICTU will now pass a motion of no confidence in the Dublin SIPTU members!

Indeed Pat, spread those rumours of our all-powerful press machine. Daithí actually sent out the press release using nothing more than the power of his will. We're just _that_ good ;)

Anyway, this is indeed a fantastic result. Such an embarrassment, and such a PUBLIC embarrassment to the Trade Union leadership tastes so very, very sweet.

What woould be even better is if other branches around the country, and other such conferences began to pass those motions. There are other parties and organisations with greater influence in the Unions than us and they'd know better than I whether such a thing is possible but Nice could be used as the catalyst to a serious challenge to the Trade Union leadership.

Could Sinn Fein members please expain why it is not hypocrital to claim to support democracy and non-militarisation when 1. Ireland voted for decommissioning years ago and it has yet to happen, Sinn Fein are not publically supporting this public position and 2. the IRA which is linked to Sinn Fein has spent the last 30 years forming military links with some of the world shadiest characters and organisations eg. FARC and Col. Gadafe
