'Eco-anxiety' affects 78% of children under 12, a crisis that teachers say they are unable to cope with, new polling by Greenpeace has found. The solution? More ruthless exposure of children to alarmist material.

Looks like something big might happen this Friday after all!

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday October 02, 2002 22:00author by Paul Kinsella - ATGWU (Personal Capacity) amongst others!author email paulkinsella53 at yahoo dot comauthor address 53 Lorcan Grove, Santry, Dublin 9, Eireauthor phone 087-9748511 Report this post to the editors

Friday is looking good!

Looks like something big might happen after all on Friday. Although I dont drive, and don't want to drive for a number of reasons, including environmental and safety ones, I confess that I often surf the AA Roadwatch Website, because traffic effects us all, including for those of us who use Public Transport. Also sometimes this is often the first place where you see news of upcoming Demos and Protests. It was for this reason that I logged onto their Website this evening to see if they had any news of this Friday's Nationwide half-day Work Stoppage. Now they have no news of the many and varied Protest Actions taking place across the country, but this piece below in their Rail News section caught my eye. I've heard that groups of ESB, Bus Eireann, An Post, and Dublin Bus Workers, amongst others are also planning to walk off the job.

Lets all down tools at 12 noon this Friday for the rest of the day, and stop the wheels of commerce and capitalism, at least for a few hours!

Rail Information

Detailed Rail Information Report
2/10/2002 Possible disruption to rail services this Friday
Iarnród Éireann regret to advise customers of possible disruption to services from noon on Friday 4th October.
Nationwide work protest meetings have been called by SIPTU as part of its campaign over general statutory redundancy and other matters which do not involve Iarnród Éireann. Although the position is not yet certain, some Iarnród Éireann staff may become involved in supporting this action, which could lead to service disruption from noon on Friday.
Iarnród Éireann will endeavour to prevent disruption, but wish to alert customers of the risk.

Just heard John McGrane, Spokesperson for the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) on the 1 O'Clock News CONFIRMING that Bus and Rail services WILL BE DISRUPTED TOMORROW. John McGrane said that although the NBRU is not affiliated to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions - ICTU (Thank God!) that the NBRU have instructed Bus and Rail Workers to SUPPORT the All-Out Nationwide Work Stoppage tomorrow and to participate in ALL of the Rallies and Protests tomorrow.

ICTU has betrayed the workers in ireland often enough that it is no surprise they side with the establishment in supporting a Yes vote. They are organising this march to be seen to do something for the IGB workers and as part of their pre-social partnership posturing.

But the participants are likely to be active and concerned trade unionists. They will bring literature back to their workplaces. They will question the ICTU line on Nice and on the illusory benefits of social partnership.

Come out, subvert the march, support the glass bottle workers and campaign for a No vote.

Carry Article 133 banners - the privatisation agenda in the Nice treaty that ICTU supports that will see thousands of workers moved out of the public sector and into contract and temporary employment.

before every march some shut in makes a claim that it will be huge and then it isnt! Maybe the person with psysic powers above has got it right this time, after all accidents do happen sometimes. If as much time was spend canvassing on Nice as engaging in foolish speculation, then a second victory might even happen again, this would hurt the Bertie and Mary gang more that a couple of hours off work will.
