Jane's Editor calls Blair's dossier a 'very clever document'

Tuesday September 24, 2002 14:16 by not ready 4 war
'It is a very clever document.' "It does not produce any convincing evidence, or any 'killer fact', that says that Saddam Hussein has to be taken out straight away. What it does do is produce very convincing evidence that the weapons inspectors have to be pushed back into Iraq very quickly ... It is a very clever document. Everybody expected it to outline the case for war on Iraq, but it doesn't even attempt to do that. I think it is designed to be the start of a rolling campaign which will involve trying to get the weapons inspectors back in. Then, if Saddam doesn't allow them in, George Bush and Tony Blair will have the ammunition to do what they consider necessary to disarm Iraq." other interesting quotes at: |

Jump To Comment: 1The point is, of course, that the Iraqi government has stated that it is ready for the UN inspection teams to return. The US administration simply brushed this aside and announced that a much stiffer UN Security Council resolution must be passed.
This is designed to provide a set of pre-conditions and accords for fresh inspections that will cause some difficulty with Iraq and immediately precipitate a pretext for war -- this time with UN Security Council backing.
The Blair dossier is simply window dressing prepare the way for this.
It should be clear then that the coming war *could* have the backing of the UN Security Council (All Permanent members have oil deals pending in Iraq and are *very* interested in what happens after Saddam Hussein is removed).
We must therefore oppose the war *regardless* of whether it is backed by the UN or not.
Saturday's Irish Anti War Movement's National Demonstration in Dublin at 3.00pm from Parnell Square is a very important opportunity to show opposition as the barks of the dogs of war get nearer.
