It was a great day out, great fun, a great bunch of people.

Its very empowering to see that a bunch of peo ple together can make a difference.

Rather than accelerate drivers slowed down when we were on the street - traffic stopped on Stephans Green and Baggot St as the people walked down the street. It was a great sight - very symbolic of what we can do together in many areas of Irish life.

Thanks to everyone who turned up and made it a fun day. Thanks to some of the cops for talking to us and smiling the odd time and for generally behaving themselves.

You are right about one thing there was "a whole mixed bunch of people" students,wasters and trouble makers. Not sure which one you are but i would say there is a bit of each in you.

So, what are the issues , stopping people going about there business or getting full in the middle of baggot street.So which one?.
Do you really thing anybody is listening to you's.
There are more & more cars on the road everyday. And you people dancing up and down baggot street are not going to stop it.

The garda's did a brillant job at the last march.

WELL DONE to everyone involved with yesterday’s RTS event. It was great fun and very enjoyable. It had something for everyone. Nice kicking techno tunes too. It was in stark contrast to what I experienced on my way home for the event. On my bike crossing O’Connell Bridge, up Amiens Street, to Fairview, etc, what greeted me was violence, abuse, aggression, 1000’s of piss heads (I had to play a game of “dodge the piss-head” with my bike!), and fans of the GAA clearly engaging in behaviour contravening the Public Order Act. More noticeable was the absence of the Garda, who were too busy policing the RTS event. But hey, that’s OK. This behaviour is normal and acceptable for such GAA fans, and I don’t expect anything less. I am very proud to have been part of RTS yesterday and will have no hesitation in going again. BIG TIME FUN!!!!!!!!!!!

Luke hit the nail on the head with his comments about these RTS events, the people who go to these things are students and wasters. Those who skirt on the outer rim of society. You think that by going out and "partying" in the streets that you will reduce the amount of cars and roads around Dublin? You think that anyone pays attention? No, they dont!! The only way you could manage to do that, would be to hold some decent positions in soctiey (which I cant see happening) or to be in government? And i dont think that likely either!!
Once again another day of subversive gathering goes by. Last i heard you people still refused to cooperate with the gardai, in a peaceful protetst.
Still sticking little signs around town whispering "RTS party". Waiting for your little worms to crawl out of the ground! When will you realise that you scare regular society!

RTS is about people havin a laugh on a street as a form of non commercial peaceful protest. The GAA is about taking advantage of hapless farmers that dont no any better-i mean c'mon its gone like WWF at this stage-any major match is nearly guarenteed a second leg (sorry replay) so as to get another full house into Croke Park.Which feeds the coffers of the GAA ,who are directly or indirectly holding back the development of other sports in the country,and who exploit their little monkeys by not paying them for playing....

I personally witnessed the organisers cleaning all waste and rubbish from baggot street yesterday. So it cost the taxpayer nothing. Pitty the visting GAA fans do not show the same respect for our streets.

(2) I don't care what you have to say, I'm interested in keeping this site readable for anyone who wants to use it, pro, anti, or don't give a * about RTS

(3) We limit the number of images per page so that pages don't take too long to load, on a 28K connection it can still take up to a minute for just 5 images

(4) If you could be polite to suggestions like this people might stop being abusive towards you

(5) Jeff's comments about you were certainly on the edge, but if we start deleting posts with swear words in them, yours would have to go to, and personally I don't think that would be fair - do you?

well to say the least who's this luke cowboy, or maybe jackeen! i can say from years of festival experience in the fair country of western ireland that what happened on the reclaim the streets in dublin was a bit of an excuse for some people. now i dont class me sel as narrow minded or wee brained but as i say in my experience of the irish festival atmosphere i have always noted that the english contingent had a firm grip on relaxing on the issues of the street. look, im just saying that reguardless of twits like yer man luke as long as the english travelling crusties continue to try and live 'the life in festive harmony' then it will only conteract with the narrowminded wee brains of major IRISH cities, after all isnt that what we want a country that is truelly ours.opera.

Firstly, I thought I should point out that "girls in their early twenties" are in fact GROWN WOMEN, or at the very least they are as "grown up" as their male counteparts.

Secondly, I find it VERY hard to believe that "Luke" is posting here "from work" with his weak grasp of spelling and grammar. It is heartwarming to watch you rant about "waster students" in your text-message english. There is no you - plural (or "u's" for that matter) in the english language. Perhaps you might benefit from a little higher education?

Personally, I don't see the point to the whole RTS thing. I don't see what it accomplishes. However, that is not the point - those are as much their roads as they are mine, "luke's" or anyone else's. Trying to argue that the gardai (see luke, G-A-R-D-A-I) have a right to BEAT CHILDREN because they are outside of your social norm can only serve to make you look like a lunatic AND weaken your stance.

I'm an Irish-American woman from New York City, wondering what the activist scene was like over in the homeland of my descendants. While reading Luke's postings I was afraid that the people of Ireland were illiterate, non-conclusive and totally bugged out.
He made me fearful to travel to a country I have been eager to visit for some time now. I know that you all have a different dialect and slang words, but shit.....Luke has yet to master the English language. It must be all that McDonald garbage that he eats, all those growth hormones must have shrunk his mind and increased his ass or as you all would say, arse. That must explain why he is a big ARSE!!!!
I love reading the ongoing battles between you all,it was a blast!! I almost fell of my chair laughing.
Anyways, I wanna give you all props, I participated in a Reclaim the Streets joint over here in NYC, a few years back.
What happened was that peeps took over train cars of the city's transit system at a Manhattan station, not too far from where the world trade center had once stood. On the train, everyone decorated the cars with yellow flowers, balloons and yellow paper. There were musicans, marijuana being passed and alcohol. The pigs (police)gave up
and sent the train express to Coney Island, where everyone all got off, went to the beach, where fireplayers, those who manipulate fire for entertainment, musicians (even a tuba player)had performed.
It was off da meters (that means real good) and the pigs let us back onto the train for free to go home. It was buttas (butterz, butter=sweet,good). I hope you all had fun.

Luke I totally agree,t hese tree huggers are dependent on the Government to live. While you are working, they are sleeping or crying for the trees being cut down or the fact that Ireland is letting the planes land in Shannon.

People get a life, what are you reclaiming the streets from or who? As citizens we already own them, we do not have to pay to use them (unlike in England) and we are free unlike the people of Iraq.

All this anti Reclaim the Streets is a load of bulshit. The general society wouldnt bother commenting on Reclaim the Streets at this website. How in the name of fuck would they even know this site existed.
Theres alot of Gardai here, with too much free time, me thinks. (Childporn found on Gardai HQ computer a couple on months ago.) They come here to piss others off. Dont let them get to ya. From now on, simply ignore comments that piss you off.
