'Eco-anxiety' affects 78% of children under 12, a crisis that teachers say they are unable to cope with, new polling by Greenpeace has found. The solution? More ruthless exposure of children to alarmist material.

Anti-Nice Treaty protest at the Dail

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday September 04, 2002 23:21author by Phuq Hedd Report this post to the editors

Sinn Fein, Green, Independent TDs protest

The Indo has a short piece on their breaking news about a reasonable call by some TDs for the government to abide by the results of the last referendum held on the Nice Treaty.

Will the government start making provision now (allocating funds, printing posters and leaflets) for the NEXT re-run of the referendum? After all, a precedent has been set: if you don't get the answer that you want, keep on asking the question.

BERTIE: do you want to?
PEOPLE: no!
BERTIE: ah go on!, you know you want to really!
PEOPLE: No! I said no!
BERTIE: it may hurt if you keep on saying no....
PEOPLE: No! No means no!
BERTIE: you don't know what you're saying love,
don't you really want to? I'm wearing
the "special" aftershave.

The debate on Nice in Leinster House resumes this morning with the usual paucity of time being allocated to the No side. Yesterday various No contributors (O'Caolain for SF who also congratulated the two lads down in Shannon, Gormley and Boyle for the Greens and McGrath and Healy on behalf of the Independents) got about 50 minutes out of the six hours of speaking time, much of which was used by various Yes speakers to lash into Barrett and Co and attempt to paint the entire No campaign as xenophobic.

It's still unclear how much time the establishment parties will allocate to the No side today but O'Caolain and Joe Higgins were just yelling about it and Joe claimed there was only 10 minutes allocated for the whole day with one more day of debate next week.

The madness continues.....

I think that is is a terrible that only one side comes out of the Dail debates. But what do you expect from those feckers!

The last time Nice was introduced the government restricted the rights of the smaller parties. I remember they introduced the rule on a party needing 7 TDs to get the right to intervene on order of business. At that time GP had 2 seats, SF and SP had 1 each.

I would hope that people on Indymedia will not fall into the same pactice as 'mainsteam' journalists. In the original posting the writer claims that "Greens, Sinn Féin, and independent TDd" were protesting.

Is Joe Higgins TD not a member of a political party? The Socialist Party is a registered political party and is very much a real entity.
