Up to now the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has largely held the line on not blaming 'extreme' weather on humans. But its latest press release suggests that is about to change, says Chris Morrison.

Public Talk: The Future of the Left in Latin America: Updates from Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador and Argentina

category dublin | worker & community struggles and protests | event notice author Sunday June 12, 2016 20:35author by LASC - Latin American Solidarity Campaign Report this post to the editors

LASC Event

Following over a decade of left-leaning governments, the past 6 months have witnessed radical changes in the political status quo in Latin America. Beginning with the election of Right-candidate Mauricio Macri in Argentina, through the controversial removal of Dilma Rousseff in Brazil, to the upheaval in Venezuela and uncertainty in Ecuador, many are speculating that the era of leftist hegemony is coming to an end, and that rightist dominance is returning. This panel of scholars will reflect on the achievements and errors of the Left-wing governments, assess the challenges facing the Left across the region, particularly that emanating from the regional Right, and offer analysis of the Left's future as a social and political force.

Dilma Rousseff has been set upon by a politically motivated Senate. Her appeal to the supreme court should overturn an unjustified vote.
