RNU took direct action to disable water meters in Belfast.

Today Republican Network for Unity took direct action to disable water meters in West Belfast. Our activists, focusing on the Suffolk and Lenadoon used cement to fill in boundary boxes at a number of properties in the locality.

This direct action renders the boundary boxes and their attached meters useless. The meters can no longer function and the boundary boxes are no longer fit for purpose.

We took the decision to assume radical action against the installation of water meters after our party discovered that water meters had been installed across Belfast and beyond. We then received concrete proof that NI Water in conjunction with Stormont was attempting to introduce charges by stealth, while denying the existence of water meters. Over recent weeks and months RNU have consistently exposed the lies of NI Water and political opportunists.

Republican Network for Unity will continue with a campaign of direct action against water meters over the coming months, we call on all political groups, parties, activists and residents to join with us in this campaign of sabotage.

The installation of water meters and their subsequent charges is a profit driven initiative that seeks to squeeze even more from working class families during a manufactured financial climate that has already forced an unendurable burden upon them.
