Opposing NICE II from abroad??

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday August 21, 2002 15:12author by Ruairiauthor email MUSCAILT at YAHOO dot COM Report this post to the editors

how to go about it...

folks, does anybody know how to go about voting from abroad - how I can do a postal vote eh? I tried a few government websites etc. and they don't make it easy for you to find - wonder why? Reminds me on the graffitti on my street that says 'if voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal!'. Still, this Nice gig is a disgrace to any tokenistic democracy we have and MUST be opposed. Any pointers, links appreciated....thanks

You can't vote from abroad, end of story.

if you hold citizenship of ireland, you have a vote, it might involve returning to ireland (doubt you want to that), but i think you can vote abroad, we have a huge ex pat population around the world, id say contact local embassy see if they could get something sorted for you!

I was told you can do a postal vote... so, not the case? I am not an expat- simply living temporarily in Canada for 6 mts or so...

All voters in referendums must
be Irish citizens,
over 18 years of age,
and be "ordinarily resident" in the Southern State.

To vote you must turn up in person at your local polling station. Postal vote is very restricted. 'Special voters' can vote at home, these include disabled etc.
