Dublin - Event Notice Thursday January 01 1970 Rescheduled Protest: Full Civil And Political Rights For The People Of Western Sahara!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Support the Saharawi, who fought the Spanish occupation only to have their land invaded by Morocco. Protest was rescheduled at short notice from last Saturday, partly so as not to clash with the ODS march on Human Rights Day. A year ago, 200,000 Saharawi left their capital city, El Aaiun, to protest against repression, arrest and torture by Moroccan forces. The camp they set up was attacked at night by Moroccan soldiers and police. Shortly afterwards, a number of Saharawi were arrested for leading the walkout and encampment and are still being held in jail in Morocco without even being charged with any offence. Some have reputedly been tortured. The EU has paid Morocco to fish in its waters but Morocco has illegally included Saharawi waters in the area. Despite knowing this, Irish Minister signed to renew the Agreement for another year. San Leon, an Ireland-based oil exploration company, has been prospecting, also illegally, in the Moroccan-occupied Saharawi countryside. |
