Thursday August 04, 2011 19:22 by Release Brendan Lillis
As it stands, Mr Ford has again denied releasing Brendan Lillis on compassionate grounds. Brendan Lillis’ is suffering with a debilitation illness and is imprisoned without crime and without trial. This is a gross miscarriage of justice and in no way represents an Ireland of justice and equality. David Ford has made an incorrect assumption based on an outdated medical report written over six months ago that Brendan does not fit the criteria for release on compassionate grounds, even though Mr Ford was presented yesterday with an updated report from two days ago, by Brendan’s partner Roisin, by the Irish United Nations Association. The Irish United Nations Association report states that: “Mr Lillis’s condition gives cause for very serious concern, I believe that he will die in Maghaberry prison because he is suffering from the advanced form of his condition which requires specialist attention for long periods. The man was over six feet tall, is now under six stone and is drifting in and out of consciences. His tangible abilities are accordingly severely compromised, his medication also contributes to his medical confusion. He quite clearly poses no risk to others as he himself is at imminent risk of death in his place of detention.” Brendan’s spine has fused together and he remains bed ridden with his eyesight failing alone in a dark prison cell. His condition to life is quickly deteriorating and time is running out fast, Brendan is dying. The “Save Brendan Lillis’ Dublin Campaign” call on all the wider public to show their support for this humanitarian drive and demand the release of Brendan Lillis on compassionate grounds! |

I'm sorry, but is it "free Brendan Lillis" or "save Brendan Lillis", because there is a difference.
Just trying to understand the mixed messages
Partner of Brendan Lillis illegally held
a statement made this evening by brendan's partner, roisín lynch:
hi everyone, just back from the jail were i was told i would have a 2 hour visit with brendan, i was taken into a small room with a guard a senior officer and duputy govenor mr. Gray . The door was locked with a 4 diget number . I was then read the riot act and was told i had sneaked a doctor and journalist in without permission? i was insulted, called a petulent child repeatadly by the s o. I asked the govenor on four occassions could i please leave the locked room, he said "no, you will leave when i believe that you have took this seriously" i then said, this is eating into my normal one hour visit, he said "i dont care about your visit" and i said that my partner is dying and i have understood what you have said. I then stood up to leave and asked again the the door be unlocked and that was when the s o said that i was "a petulent child" the door was eventually unlocked after 20 minutes and i left the room, where the shouting by the govenor continued into the landing. The prisoners were then locked up in their cells, the s o and the screw walked very closley behind me in an intimidating way. I ignorded this and asked the govenor at the end of the corridor for his name again, and he spelt it out "g r a y" due to this harrassment i only got a 20 minute visit with brendan. I have since spoke to paul maskey who made me aware that govenor gibney had in fact ok/d the 2 hour visit? guard stood at the door. No change in brendan. Roisin
I see that last night SDLP justice committee member Colum Eastwood said that news of the transfer of Brendan Lillis to City Hospital in Belfast was a "vindication" of the calls for him to be freed. The Foyle MLA said: "This must now be backed up with his release."
There is no reason why Brendan should be lying helpless in a hospital bed, with a police guard on him, and his family having to apply the the prison governor every time they want to visit him.
This Tuesday, 16th August, we will again protest for the release of Brendan Lillis outside the "NI" tourist office Suffolk St. Dublin from 1pm - 2pm
We call on all humanitarians to join us in calling for the release of this gravely ill Irish citizen.
Wednesday evening next, protest will continue on bridge of peace in Drogheda at 7pm. Release Brendan Lillis.
