Monday October 10th is World Mental Health Day* which aims to raise public awareness about mental health issues. The day promotes open discussion on mental health, and investments in prevention, promotion and services. This year the theme is "investing in mental health" and according to Manus Hanratty, the new CEO of the SpunOut.ie National Youth Organisation, Ireland needs to wake up and take action to address the youth mental health crisis facing our country. On Saturday October 15th the SpunOut.ie National Youth Organisation, in association with Dublin Contemporary, will bring together 200 young people for a youth focused forum with the 2011 Presidential candidates. The event will give the candidates a unique opportunity to discuss with the younger generation why they should vote for them. It will also provide a chance for the candidates to hear young people’s opinions and answer their questions directly. Recently in the picturesque village of Ballynagore, Co Westmeath, the local Council at a cost of €40,000 took the decision to demolish 3 bungalows that where close to being fully constructed, in what is now purported to be the demolition of Ireland's first 'ghost estate.'
