limerick / rights, freedoms and repression Monday October 01, 2007 - 13:00 by Adrian Nally
Update to the open letter published on indymedia on the 20th of September 2007. Same sorry old story. No responsibility taken by the authorities who are preventing me from having my car in a public place, or driving any vehicle, due to their on-going vendetta. I am hopeful that the minister will take my complaint seriously and deal with it appropriately. Otherwise, its more hardship without any answers. ... read full story / add a comment

Award-winning Danish theatre company The Telling Theatre will perform their adaptation of Beowulf, at the Players Theatre at 8 pm on 20 October 2007. The show will be followed by a discussion with the performers.

With this production, the Narrative Arts Club would like to invite Irish performers and listeners to new ways of thinking about storytelling, in accordance with the club's motto: "Forget what storytelling was, and find out what it might be."

The "storytelling theatre" concept offers an exciting opportunity for the much-neglected art of storytelling to compete with the other urban arts, such as the conventional theatre, stand-up comedy and the cinema, for the attentions of savvy young urbanites at prime city-centre venues. ... read full story / add a comment

The visit of the head of the British Colonial police in Ireland to Cork tomorrow (September 28) is part of the ongoing process of normalising British rule in Ireland. By bringing Hugh Orde to Cork, like his visit to Ballymurphy in Belfast and Crossmaglen in Co Armagh, an attempt is being made to suggest that British rule and its forces of occupation are now normal and acceptable. ... read full story / add a comment

donegal / worker & community struggles and protests Friday September 07, 2007 - 02:20 by Brian H
Members of the IWU have been angered at the difficulties imposed on workers seeking PPS numbers by the Department of Social & Family Affairs. ‘This situation has only come to light when a Polish worker sought a PPS number within two days of arriving in Donegal to take up a job - the worker attempted to register for the PPS number at the local Social Welfare office but was told it would be necessary to travel to Letterkenny – a distance of more than 50 miles – which is now the only office issuing new numbers.’ ... read full story / add a comment

This important conference provides activists of all hues with a chance to reflect on the sources of violence in our culture. It aims to combine contributions from exciting and innovative theorists with the lived experience of grassroots resisters.

Periods of reflection and sharing of experience and theory are often underestimated as a source of strength and wisdom, particularly in anti-war activism. I would therefore urge anyone who feels they have something to say about resistance to mainstream cultural imperatives that ask us to tolerate violence to think about contributing to this conference. If you do not feel able to do so, please think about attending and participating more informally. The information is below.

The Institute for Feminism and Religion is a not-for-profit organisation. This is a non-commercial event; the conference fee is purely to cover the costs of running it. ... read full story / add a comment
