It's pretty certainly a conincidence that the day after the news that same bunch will be running the country for the next while broke, an article appeared in Energy Business Review, pointing out how lucrative the huge reserves of gas and oil off the west coast of Fianna Fáil land will be. Lucrative for the energy companies that is, not for the people of Ireland (unless you count certain people with different morals from the rest of us). ... read full story / add a comment

Paul Muldoon (author of Horse Latitudes) writes in a recent New York Times article about the destruction of rich archaeological and heritage sites along the route of the proposed M3. Muldoon goes a good job of conveying the historical and archaeological significance of Tara and the "interesting" position of Bertie Ahern. ... read full story / add a comment

In his latest powerful article for the UK, New Statesman, award winning writer, reporter and documentarist, John Pilger, describes how Gaza in Palestine has come to symbolise the imposition of great power on the powerless, in the Middle East and all over the world, and how a vocabulary of double standard is employed to justify this epic tragedy. ... read full story / add a comment

Few people anywhere are unaware of America’s dirty little grab for the resources of weaker nations. For every full tank of gas INNOCENT human blood has been spilt, particularly the blood of those least able to defend themselves, CHILDREN. When faced with undeniable and unpleasant realities Americans seek refuge in the unreality of their televisions or other distracting entertainments. The cost of the American lifestyle today is served to local populations for breakfast, however, the media is careful to neatly package all distasteful material in justifications, propaganda and flagrant lies (that have no currency anywhere but America). ... read full story / add a comment
