At times of cultural divisions reading cartoon websites and cartoon magazines from all the different part of the planet, help to better understand each other. The blasphemous cartoons brought a lot of troubles but most of the time cartoons are the most direct and easy way to communicate, understand and appreciate the humour culture and tradition of societies and regions far away from our one. donquichotte magazine ... read full story / add a comment

Ryanair are famous for the use of spin and 'selective' figures to hide the truth, recent examples being pilot working hours, state subsidies, negative polluting externalities, disability charges etc. The latest is the number of workers employed per aircraft. This is an interesting report on some research into the study of cockroaches from the Free University Of Brussels in Beligum. The findings show that they follow some simple decision making rules and this has helped open up the understanding of these creatures and other insects too because they also follow similar patterns or rules. It seems that they operate without any leaders. Now if we could just do that. It also intriguing because it shows that the idea of equality and some forth is not just a human construct but is something that goes to the heart of nature. ... read full story / add a comment

This past week in Australia has been ‘fundamentally’ outstanding; dimwitted fundamentalist religionists vied with each other for top billing in the local media. Never has the nation seen such retarded behaviour from so many diverse religious groups. The prize for fundamentalist imbecile of the week however goes to the Muslim cleric Sheik al-Hilali for his retrogressive reference to women as “uncovered meat”. He unashamedly placed the responsibility for rape and other sexually violent acts onto women; men were exonerated on the basis that “uncovered meat” is sexually provocative! The local media now refers to the cleric as the “Meat Sheik” and continues to sensationalise aspects of the story. ... read full story / add a comment

Where death is the penalty for going bare-headed If our leaders are intent on finding peace in Iraq, they could begin by upholding women's basic human rights Black is never out of fashion in Iraq. Some women, the bereaved, have not cast off their mourning robes since 2003. Others, Christians included, wear Muslim dress as camouflage to preserve their lives. Driving a car or walking bare-headed is a come-on to executioners in a country where last year's Western fashions have become this season's shroud. ... read full story / add a comment

I hope that we draw courage of conviction from Brad's example and that we stand together throughout the indymedia network and as individuals to redouble our efforts. I think you all know that it could have been any one of us. But, it is so much easier for them to take us one at a time. We stand much more strongly together in what we can all be proud of.
