I was amazed to hear that Joe the plumber is now for pyjama TV (http://www.pjtv.com/?cmd=page&page-id=111) "reporting" from Sderot on Newstalk yesterday.

I wondered what qualified him so uniquely for this position?

Perhaps its his unique skills acquired over many years as a plumber in dealing with large quantities of shit?

According to Joe

"I don't think journalists should be anywhere around war.

I mean you guys report where our troops are at

you report what's happening day-to-day

you make a big deal out of it

I think it's assinine

I think media should be abolished from, you know, reporting" ... read full story / add a comment

With increasing numbers choosing not to buy new cars here, or going north in search of second-hand bargains, there has been much discussion in the Irish motoring industry as to how a moribund market might be revived. The obvioius option: scrapping excise duty on cars (or Vehicle Registration Tax) is the elephant in the room that has been studiously ignored. ... read full story / add a comment

A short article in the Irish edition of the Daily Mirror points out the absurdity of the country making cutbacks in public services while sitting on billions of euro worth of natural resources, and happily handing them over to the most profitable companies in the world.

A quick quote at the end makes clear that Fine Gael see nothing wrong with the present system, seeing the giveaway of 100 per cent of what is found as an "incentive". Presumably if Simon Coveney had gold buried in his garden, he would give it all away to anyone who was prepared to help him dig for it, keeping none for himself...

There may be many things about the Turkish Prime Minister that people find objectionable but his challenge to Peres at Davos yesterday is surely not one of them. Pope Benedict XVI has today revoked the excommunications of four schismatic bishops, of the kind of flock who like to say Latin Mass & one in particular whose comments denying the Holocaust not only provoked recent outrage but did so without getting proper Irish media coverage.

So there you go. Priests and bishops these days may be getting screened oppressively to weed out the child molesters in a manner no trade union would accept for membership, but their bishopry is safe from accusations of Holocaust Denial.

it was on Youtube.

Richard Nelson Williamson, SSPX (born 8 March 1940) is a bishop of the Society of St. Pius X. He was excommunicated by the Roman Catholic Church because of his unauthorized consecration by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, deemed by the Holy See to be "unlawful" and "a schismatic act". The excommunication has just been lifted by the Holy See today, January 2009. He is a widely recognised Holocaust Denier.

Despite their rhetoric the Iranian Mullahs witheld practical support from the Palestinian Resistance. Yassamine Mather reveals the extent of the Mullahs treachery. Full article at link.

There can be no doubts that over the last few weeks Tehran has used the most colourful rhetoric amongst Islamic states to ‘prove’ its support for Gaza’s Palestinian population. However Iran’s actions have, as always, failed miserably in matching its slogans. According to one commentator writing in last week’s Economist, “Iranian support for Hamas was more theatrical than practical.”
