Pope Benedict XVI has today revoked the excommunications of four schismatic bishops, of the kind of flock who like to say Latin Mass & one in particular whose comments denying the Holocaust not only provoked recent outrage but did so without getting proper Irish media coverage.

So there you go. Priests and bishops these days may be getting screened oppressively to weed out the child molesters in a manner no trade union would accept for membership, but their bishopry is safe from accusations of Holocaust Denial.

it was on Youtube.

Richard Nelson Williamson, SSPX (born 8 March 1940) is a bishop of the Society of St. Pius X. He was excommunicated by the Roman Catholic Church because of his unauthorized consecration by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, deemed by the Holy See to be "unlawful" and "a schismatic act". The excommunication has just been lifted by the Holy See today, January 2009. He is a widely recognised Holocaust Denier.

Many people posting here are aware of the more subtle form of trolling that goes on at times. The Mr or Ms Reasonables who claim to be neutral on a given issue but who are clearly anything but. Israel has an army of such people it calls on to promote its actions. It has been working at fever pitch during the war on Gaza. ... read full story / add a comment

Despite their rhetoric the Iranian Mullahs witheld practical support from the Palestinian Resistance. Yassamine Mather reveals the extent of the Mullahs treachery. Full article at link.

There can be no doubts that over the last few weeks Tehran has used the most colourful rhetoric amongst Islamic states to ‘prove’ its support for Gaza’s Palestinian population. However Iran’s actions have, as always, failed miserably in matching its slogans. According to one commentator writing in last week’s Economist, “Iranian support for Hamas was more theatrical than practical.”

As if Obama's disgusting and complicit silence about the slaughter in Gaza while it was ongoing were not enough, news is emerging that the great black hope of America will be nothing if not more ruthless than his predecessor. Here's a quote from one of his 'Homeland Security' statements:

"Ensure that our military becomes more stealthy, agile, and lethal in its ability to capture or kill terrorists. Bolster our military's ability to speak different languages, navigate different cultures, and coordinate complex missions with our civilian agencies."

Morgan Kelly, Professor of Economics at UCD has delivered a scathing criticism of Cowen's decision to rescue Anglo Irish Bank - and describes how Cowen and Lenihan went against advice of the Central Bank and their own experts in the Department of Finance - fully aware of what it would do to the citizens of the state.

The reality is that Anglo has no importance in the Irish financial system. It existed purely as a vehicle for a few politically connected individuals to place reckless bets on the commercial property market. These property speculators may be of systemic importance to the finances of Fianna Fáil, but their significance ends there.

In a powerful Counterpunch article, human rights activist, Caoimhe Butterly, working in Jabaliya and Gaza City as a volunteer with ambulance services and as co-coordinator for the Free Gaza Movement vividly describes the abattoir and war crime scene that is now Gaza: The bodies in their blood-soaked white shrouds cover the entire floor space of the Shifa hospital morgue. Some are intact, most horribly deformed, limbs twisted into unnatural positions, chest cavities exposed, heads blown off, skulls crushed in. ... read full story / add a comment
dublin / anti-war / imperialism Monday January 19, 2009 - 11:35 by John Mearsheimer
John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago, co-author of the paper (available online) and subsequent book (with Stephen Walt) _The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy_, presents a concise timeline description and absolutely the clearest account of the true reason behind Israel's wanton atrocities in Gaza.

Mearsheimer argues that diminishing Hamas or stopping their rockets are subsidiary goals for Israel, to Israel's more central goal of controlling all of historical Palestine via an "Iron Wall" policy that would permanently subjugate the Palestinian people

Mearsheimer points out that this goal cannot be achieved, and certainly not by the brutal method of a total war on the Palestinian people. The likely outcome even in the case of relative Israeli success is a permanent Apartheid, which itself will [thankfully] doom Israel as a chauvinistically and exclusionary "Jewish State" [and its racist state ideology of Zionism]. ... read full story / add a comment
