This year, 18 people are dead, and so many friends, family and people are affected. Last year, it was 8 deaths in a turf war. The turf war is territory and the war relates to the sale of illegal drugs that destroy peoples' lives. I believe in everybody having a degree of self reliance in and input to halting this plague of mind distortion so called pleasure. The articles in New Scientist are worth a read. This week's article is second from the bottom.....the title is what motivates me to write, the remainder of my comment is about contextualising the effects of drugs on long term and health and in particular the consequences of mental health problems as a direct consequence of addiction. Let the children know. Why don't we have some for of game that shows you how unpleasant it is when your mind goes ary..... http://www.newscientist.com ... read full story / add a comment

This is my 4th article looking at the Housing Crises and Extreme Poverty in Paris. According to the Dáil Report in The Irish Times on Friday 11 November, the Taoiseach said: “Human Rights Watch went on to say that it was highly unlikely that this type of clandestine activity [i.e. the CIA's extraordinary renditions] would operate out of a major civilian airport.” On this basis, we are to be reassured that we do not need to search US aircraft landing at Shannon. In a letter to the Taoiseach, I quote reports from mainstream media sources of CIA aircraft operating its extraordinary abuses out of the following major civilian airports: Bromma (aka Stockholm City Airport), Dulles (Washington), Prestwick (Glasgow), Queen Alia (Amman) and Kastrup (Copenhagen). If all of these airports have been used and abused, then why not Shannon? ... read full story / add a comment

At its' October 2005 conference the Workers Solidarity Movement made a large number of changes to our position paper on 'The Partition of Ireland'. The first draft of this paper was posted to indymedia back in August 2004 leading to a debate over some 68 comments ( see http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=66227 ). One morning my mother was in the basement feeding wet-washed clothes into the ringer when she paused to rest for a moment. With the ringer off she suddenly realised the house was quiet - unusually quiet. She took a careful look around and thoughtfully headed for the stairs. It was equally quiet in the kitchen. She moved more quickly now as she headed upstairs. The bedromms were empty but before climbing to the attic, she noticed the bathroom door was fully shut. Approaching, she thought she heard a noise. Trying the knob she found it locked. ... read full story / add a comment

Some do not want to remember those who died during WW1 while fighting in the British Army. But it should be remembered that many of them were economic conscripts and many others were duped into joining the BA by John Redmond. Remember all of those who fell, be they Irish, Scottish, Welsh, English, Turkish, French, German Austrians, Russians or Anzacs. http://www.welfare.ie/publications/sw108.html I find European Commission working too slow in this issue; anti-discrimination groups and unions don't seem to me to be taking it seriously enough, the general public is uninformed.
