In his 4 minute message the acclaimed campaigner and spiritual leader celebrates Afri's 37 years of activism and says 'independent voices like Afri's are more essential than ever in our world today'. He also refers to the importance of Afri's approach of linking the global with the local including their anti-apartheid campaigns as well as solidarity work with Philippines, East Timor, Latin America, the Niger Delta and the people of Rossport in Co. After a vigil today at Shannon, which was specially to mark the 10th anniversary of the peaceful act of sabotage on a US warplane by the catholic ploughshares people, there was evidence of a lot of Irish military activity at the airport. read full story / add a comment

On Feb 1st, St. Bridget's Day and Human Rights Day, Galway Pussy Riot in solidarity with the three Pussy Rioters two who were sent to a Russian labor camp gave a 20 minute riotous and righteous rant outside AIB bank in Galway calling for the tearing down of the false gods of capitalism, the freemarket, greed, their minions in the Irish Government and the Troika. read full story / add a comment

According to archeological experts here, Syria, with its six UNESCO world heritage sites testifying to its deserved reputation as being one of the most archeologically well-preserved cradles of civilization, may soon to be the most wantonly destroyed in modern times (Iraq being the other). This frequently-predicted catastrophe is a result, not only of war in the usual sense, but war in its more subtle form of US-led sanctions aimed at political regime change. Dolours Price has been found dead at her home in Dublin. The 62-year-old mother-of-two was found at her home in Malahide last night, sources said. Her death is not being treated as suspicious. A postmortem is due to take place on her body at the Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown later today. Ms Price and her 58-year-old sister Marian, who has been politcally interned in British Occupied Ireland since 2011 were on hunger strike for over 200 days,being force-fed by the British for 167 of them read full story / add a comment

Harris announced on 13 January that he, like the Sunday Independent paper edited by Anne (formerly Mrs) Harris, has been ‘silent’ on loyalist flag riots in the North of Ireland. The riots started out as an attack on the moderate unionist Alliance Party. Alliance brokered a compromise on Belfast City Council that permitted flying the Union Jack flag on 18 ‘designated’ days per year. The SDLP and Sinn Fein plan had been for either a shared no-flag space in the council or for parity of esteem by flying the Irish Tricolour with the Union Jack. Unionists don't do compromise. The DUP and UUP, egged on by the unionist Newsletter, put out 40,000 leaflets attacking Alliance MP Naomi Long and her party generally. Long took DUP leader Peter Robinson’s seat at the last British general election. A sore point. read full story / add a comment

Abortion Rights Campaign established in Dublin today, 19/01/20130 At a national pro-choice meeting in Dublin today, the name and aims of the newly established Abortion Rights Campaign were announced. Groups and individuals from across the country, including Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Belfast came together to discuss and agree the next steps for the movement. The aims of the campaign include legislation on the X & C cases and repeal of the 8th amendment to the Irish constitution. Actions and events are being organised across the country over the coming months. Speakers at the event included Clare Daly TD who said, “The Abortion Rights Campaign is not a sprint, it's a marathon and we're here for the long haul. In the meantime, we want the immediate introduction of legislation for the right to safe, legal abortion when a woman's life is at risk, including from suicide. We also want the simplest, broadest legislation that includes the right to abortion in the case of fatal foetal abnormality. Miscarriage of Justice victim Gerry Conlon depicted in the film with this article, has spoken out in support of Marian Price. Marian has been politically interned without trial since May 2011, after the then Viceroyal for British Occupied Ireland, Owen Paterson, revoked a non existing prison release licence, after a Royal pardon was either mislaid or shredded by the British. read full story / add a comment

Fears are growing in Dublin, that the British will again bomb the city, under the cover of loyalism, as Belfast loyalists are threatening to come south, after a third night of loyalist rioting in Belfast, with gunshots being fired in east Belfast yesterday. Three nights of rioting by the paramilitary UVF, escalated yesterday, with the help of British fascist from England. The British Empire was based on the preceding Roman Empire. Both were based on their respective brutality, couched as civilization, hence the name Brutish Empire. During the decline and fall of the Roman Empire, decadence coupled with orgies and vomitoriums of incessant eating, were some of their features, before their fall. Others were wanton sadistic violence, coupled with the systemic rape of children. The Ministry of Defence in London has just paid out £14 million in compensation to hundreds of Iraqis who were illegally detained and tortured by British forces during the five-year occupation of the south-east of the country, demonstrating the British have broken their promises and undertakings to the international community once again. On the 18th January 1978, the Government of the Republic of Ireland brought an application against Britain, before the Commission of International Human Rights in Strasbourg (ii) that various interrogation practices--in particular the so-called 'five techniques', which included wall- standing, hooding and deprivation of sleep and food--and other practices to which suspects were subjected amounted to torture and inhuman or degrading treatment contrary to Article 3...The Commission unanimously found that the five techniques did constitute a practice of torture and that other practices amounted to inhuman and degrading treatment read full story / add a comment

The Carers Association will protest outside Leinster House at 1pm on Tuesday 11th Decmber. The Carers Association are extremely disappointed with the level of reduction of over 19% in the respite grant paid to over 77,000 family carers, 20,000 of whom receive no other support from the state for providing full-time care for a family member from their own resources. The grant is used by carers to buy in home care or pay for residential respite care for the cared for person in order to give the carer a much needed break from their caring role. Despite working 7 days a week, 365 days a year carers are entitled to no holidays and no breaks. This grant goes some way towards allowing this. Other carers use the grant to pay bills. read full story / add a comment
