international / rights, freedoms and repression / opinion/analysis Tuesday July 23, 2013 07:46 by Anthony Ravlich
Do we want a great society based on ability and hardwork (often includes character) where people can reach their full potential or the prevailing mediocrity, with its descent-based 'bi-cultural' elite and, what I see as, 'arrested development' ? read full story / add a comment

Last week Detroit was officially declared bankrupt . Long time downtown residents of the city last week vowed to resist evictions planned in order to sell off their homes to the super rich . The evictions are being touted as essential cost saving measures - part of an emergency plan involving "gentrification" of the Metropolitan area of the city.
Writing in the Herald yesterday, TV economics pundit Eddie Hobbs advised Irish people with at least a million to invest that the smart money was going on premium location properties in "distressed" cities like Detroit . He told the Herald : "We are currently investing heavily for clients in Metro Detroit. " read full story / add a comment

The Irish Independent reports today: ' Every household in the country will be hit with a new Public Service Broadcasting Charge to replace the television licence fee next year.

Nobody will be able to refuse to pay the charge because it will apply regardless of whether you have a television, computer or any other device that can pick up public information.

The new universal charge will be collected in a way that tackles the current very high evasion rates of the TV licence fee - suggesting the payment mechanism could be modelled on the new property tax.

Currently nearly one in five households does not pay the TV licence fee and this is costing the government €30m a year in lost revenue.
