The disappearance of Julio Lopez, an aging former political prisoner and important state witness in the trial of a former police investigator found guilty of human rights abuses electrified the social movement in Argentina back in November. Despite mobilisations and the appearance of graffiti demanding action from the Kirchner government all over the capital, there are now further hints of present day dirty tactics by police connected to the former dictatership. On the same day that Spain resolved to arrest former police officer and alleged death squad leader Rodolfo Almiro, a second disappeared witness in trials against military officers - Luis Angel Gerez - suddenly reappeared. This reappearance comes amidst widespread claims that hundreds of threats have been made against human rights and social movement activists in the capital and across the country, as usual Upsidedownworld.org has the latest... read full story / add a comment

I just accidently became involved in what has turned out to be the biggest house-building fraud in this so-called United Kingdon when I purchased one of these totally defective and criminally and illegaly built dwellings in 1976. This fraud has now been successfully covered up by all the political parties in Northern Ireland for 30 years. The British Government even allowed the lawful findings of the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Complaints to be overturned to protect the corrupt cover-up of this fraud by Down District Council. The 'catholic' SDLP has led the cover-up in Down District Council. Gerry Rice. Gerry Rice. read full story / add a comment

The British and Irish Communist Organisation were a Maoist influenced group who in the 1970s were almost unique in supporting Ulster Unionism. They were prolific publishers and claimed an influence over large numbers of both left and right wing individuals. During the 1990s the core members of the group have embraced a neo-nationalist position and become prominent in debates on Irish historical revisionism. read full story / add a comment

For several months the town of Oaxaca, capital of the Mexican State of the same name, has been the center (of a movement) of important struggles which have undergone (or suffered) repeated attacks by the forces of repression (police, army and paramilitary) with many victims: at the end of November the toll was 22 dead and 34 disappeared. read full story / add a comment

'Pet' or companion animals are left out in the cold by politicians as there is no government minister with responsibility for their protection and welfare. This has implications for all 'pet' owners as well as abandoned animals and the groups that rescue them. While Ireland has led the way in relation to other issues, we are way behind the rest of Europe when it comes to the treatment of our animals. In order for us to truly take our place among the 'civilised' countries of the world, this needs to be addressed now. read full story / add a comment |
