As the arm-chair crusaders of the conservative media celebrate another triumph, it’s important for those of us who opposed the war to form our own perspective. First of all, anyone who cares about democracy and human rights should be delighted to see the people of Iraq tearing down statues of Saddam Hussein and desecrating his palaces. After a quarter-century of brutal tyranny, they’ve earned the right to celebrate, and it’s not surprising to see many people greet American and British soldiers as liberators (after all, the people of Czechoslovakia greeted the Red Army with open arms in 1945 - it recieved a frostier reception in 1968). read full story / add a comment

Des Dalton, Assistant PRO, Republican Sinn Féin May 16, 2003 "The Dublin Government, whose right-wing social and economic policies have squandered the wealth which was available to them over the past number of years, resulting in an ever widening gap between rich and poor, is now targeting the most weak and vulnerable in society. This was highlighted at the recent AGM of KARE, a Kildare based charity which provides a range of services for disabled people and their families, who are now facing a deficit of 200 000 euro for 2003 as compared to a deficit of 4.088 euro for 2002, as a result of the removal of all state funding. read full story / add a comment

Todays Indo.Poll suggests that 54% of irish now favour the US use of Shannon. Lies,damn lies and statistics,no doubt. however this does beg the question[s] Are we a nation of hyprocrites,who will fence sit untill we are assured of the winning side.then jump down on the victory band wagon,with a:"Ah Shure we yiz BEHIND yiz all de way.Tanks for doin de dority work .now is dere any chance of us sellin dem Iraqui fellahs some beef,like we did before?An could we git a few of dem green cards agin?"
