Breaking news in the Sindo says that there is an agreed common position from European Greens that neutral states should be militarily available during times of war. I can't find Green Party press releases about this on either the Irish GP site http://www.greenparty.ie/pressroom/default.htm or at any of the UK or European ones. Is this a distortion by the Sindo? read full story / add a comment

Iran, according to Israel's representatives in the White House is the next target for "preventive war". Let us hope that Iran and the rest of the world will learn the lesson of Iraq and the failure of the UN: international solidarity and military deterrence can raise the cost of war beyond the calculations of the Washington war mongers. read full story / add a comment

Kabul: Pace of reconstruction 'frustrating' says military chief From Phil Reeves in Lahore, Pakistan 23 March 2003 As American and British cruise missiles create havoc in Baghdad, a US general has accused the West of failing to do enough to rebuild the last country visited by President Bush's military – Afghanistan. His remarks come amid widespread fury in the international community over the US-British invasion of Iraq, coupled with concern that the onslaught began before adequate preparations had been made for a possible humanitarian crisis. http://news.independent.co.uk/world/asia_china/story.jsp?story=389803 read full story / add a comment

[BACKGROUND: In 1917, following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire, the British occupied Iraq and established a colonial government. The Arab and Kurdish people of Iraq resisted the British occupation, and by 1920 this had developed into a full scale national revolt, which cost the British dearly. As the Iraqi resistance gained strength, the British resorted to increasingly repressive measures, including the use of posion gas.] NB: Because of formatting problems, quotation marks will appear as stars * read full story / add a comment
