If the presence of the life process is considered to be one of the exclusive characteristics of living creatures, what then are we to say about seeds? Does it ever occur to you that in those monocellulars “that have survived till today” the life process has virtually never come to a stop since the very beginning of their existence? Because of the obscurity of the line separating the living from the dead, is it not possible for us to claim that there is “life” in atoms? read full story / add a comment

The Liberties Recycling Plant in Basin Street, Dublin 8, is a model of community driven enterprise. As an example of sustainable business, it excels on many counts. It is a financially viable concern, recycles discarded clothes and textiles, and provides 15 employment positions for people who are trying to rehabilitate themselves from drug use. Yet the Irish Republic’s only textile recycling plant now faces closure - unless the authorities step in and help secure alternative premises. read full story / add a comment

While all other minorities raise their ethnic flags the Assyrian flag is absent from Iraqi towns and villages. The general population feels that the Americans are there today and will leave few months from now and if they raise their flag the Moslems will turn against them later. Assyrian families received letters ordering them to abide by the rules of Islam, such as wearing the veil, or face harsh consequences like rape and murder among other things. Assyrians of Iraq have almost completely forgotten how to believe and pray. Assyrians have been, for all practical purposes, culturally Islamized. They have forgotten their savior Jesus Christ. read full story / add a comment

The Islamic holy book, the Koran, is to be translated into Irish. Ms Leslie Carter, of the Islamic Cultural Centre, in Clonskeagh, Dublin, said yesterday the project was at an early stage but would "definitely happen".

There were Irish speakers among the Muslim community here who wanted an Irish-language version of the Koran, she said. "We think it's very important to bring the Irish language more into everyday life. There's a lot in common between the Irish and the Islamic way of looking at life." read full story / add a comment
