The full text of the High Court judgment in the O' Cuanachain case was due to be delivered tomorrow 27th April. But they chickened out. Would this by any chance be connected to the forthcoming election? You can bet on it. It would have been interesting to see what form of casuistry they had come up with to justify this callous and discriminatory judgment. read full story / add a comment

DO YOU remember when we voted to give away the €51 billion Corrib gas field to Shell and Statoil? No, well maybe you remember the day we voted to join the Iraq war by allowing US warplanes to re- fuel at Shannon? Or the time we voted to give tax breaks to private hospitals for the rich? It’s amazing how few decisions we are allowed to take. We do get to vote in the very occasional referendum and about a dozen general elections in an average lifetime, and that’s it. read full story / add a comment

Thomas Kennedy, an elderly Tipperary farmer is still in jail after over 40 days. He was put in jail for contempt of court by Justice Olive Buttimer when he insisted on reading his own sworn affidavit from the witness box. He has written records of the purchase of the farm from his late brother yet the court refuses to allow his evidence to be heard and sent him to jail. He refuses to be removed from his farm and therefore cannot purge the contempt. He needs the light of publicity to protect him. This is the role of Indymedia. read full story / add a comment

Council grants injunction against protestors

The High Court has granted an injunction to Limerick County Council against four people who have occupied the county buildings since yesterday afternoon.

Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O'Neill granted the injunction against Donal O'Brien and Kenneth McCarthy from Pallaskenry Co Limerick and Patrick Gleeson and Daniel Foley from Kildimo Co Limerick.

The court was told the four are members of the Bleach Lough Water Retention group and are involved in a long-standing protest against plans by the County Council to change the water supply to the Kildimo/Pallaskenry area.

The case will come before the court again on Friday morning. read full story / add a comment

There’s one useful bench-mark for judging the progress of the Bolivarian revolution over the coming years – how much does the role played by Chavez himself diminish, and how rapidly? You can’t assess what’s happened in Venezuela over the last eight years realistically without recognising that Hugo Chavez has played a positive role. But an asset can become a liability, and the commanding position of Chavez could be an obstacle to the emergence of popular democracy in Venezuela. To succeed, the Bolivarian revolution will have to go beyond its dependence on Hugo Chavez.

Following a very successful publicity campaign and public protest the serious issue of the Galway water crisis, how it is being handled, and how it is affecting the households of Galway, is now being highlighted. Outside City Hall, at a demonstration attended by 300 Galway residents, a letter of immediate demands was handed personally to the City Manager Mr. Mc Grath, and to those elected representatives that joined the protesters in solidarity. read full story / add a comment
