Galway’s newly elected Mayor, Green Party Councillor Niall Ó Brolchain and his deputy, Billy Cameron of the Labour Party have both refused to officiate at the Salthill Air Show. Instead both councillors will be in attendance at an alternative event being organised by the Galway Alliance Against War. The Galway Alliance Against War is arranging its own air show at Nimmo’s Pier, the Claddagh at 1.30pm next Sunday as a counter event to the Salthill Air Show. Instead of warplanes and military helicopters, the Galway peace group will be floating 99 red balloons - biodegradable of course - over Galway Bay. The idea stems from the 1980s anti-war pop song of the same name, 99 Red Balloons. (Lyrics of song attached below) read full story / add a comment

'Knowledge is no load'........Today Knowledge flounders in vanity by revelations of a woman who forms the centre stage in Irish politics. Money is the core ingredient of motive......entertainment, dress, holidays, no divorce because after all that would involve the judiciary deciding how to allocated funds......a deletion of power!!!! Remember: The bus pass was a great populist move but as we moved into the pre-ordained capitalist route, privatisation will no doubt end this. Yes, the 1970's, a woman could marry into a farm and the husband could leave it to the son.....and her fate could be the county home But does anyone ask about Divorce, the fact that there is no clean break, the fact it is 50/50, the fact that when a person dies, their spouse is notified and within 6 months can make a claim on their estate..... What about the 2nd bite of the Cherry.....The truth is there is one rule for the rich ......... and a completely different one for the ordinary person. The trend in Ireland is to leave the house with wife, contributing to men living in one bed flats and in some cases homeless. The English divide.........What is Fair? read full story / add a comment

Today Conor Lenihan , Minister of Children , who was vaguely absent , the weeks of the constitutional crisis provoked by the release of Mr A by Ms Justice Mary Laffoy admitted to reporters that he would listen to young people regarding the age of consent. This was followed by a worthy statement, wherein he said that though he would listen, the final decision on age of consent rested with the deputies( one presumes in the Dail) and not with the views of the people they hope to question on their sexual habits. read full story / add a comment

The Vocational Education Committees and their teaching staff unions seem to be in a bit of a muddle about whether or not teachers at Youthreach centres should be properly qualified. Youthreach is an alternative education facility for pupils aged between 15 and 21 who have not succeeded educationally within the ordinary school system. There can be a variety of reasons - social, educational, cultural - why this happens and the centres provide a potentially valuable opportunity to support a group of young people who would otherwise be seriously disadvantaged. read full story / add a comment

The world’s most cowardly leader, John Howard, has surpassed even himself with his latest spineless effort of making a gift of the (once sovereign) Australian nation to the Yanks. The clearest indication of America’s newest colonial acquisition is the construction of permanent US military bases in the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Those who imagine that US bases are not an indication of US military or economic supremacy, think again. Locating all the US bases on the globe is a revealing exercise. Without exception all the bases that exist outside continental USA have been built after either military or economic CONQUEST. read full story / add a comment

In delivering a resounding eulogy to his former mentor and “boss”, the late Taoiseach Charles J.
