More than a decade ago, Leona Helmsley*, New York’s ‘Queen of Mean’ famously said that ‘only the little people pay taxes.’ She could have been talking about Ireland and yesterday’s announcement that 11 millionaires paid zero tax legally, can only add to the perception of inequity in our society. read full story / add a comment

Below is an article by well known Indy media commentator Marc Mulholland. It is possibly the best and most honest explanation of a pro war stance that I have come across and raises many interesting points for debate.

Gambling on Revolution
For those who supported the Iraq War as a punt on the prospects of
detonating democratic revolution in the country and by extension in the region – sections of the Neocon Right and the Liberal Left – the question of realism is critical if we are not to be condemned as dilettante utopians. read full story / add a comment

Last weekend, Young Fine Gael (YFG) in co-operation with two youth political parties in the Ukraine, Young Rukh and the CDMU, expressed our concern with the manner in which the government of the Ukraine is carrying out the Presidential Election campaign due on October 31st and called for those elections to be carried out in a free and fair manner. There would appear to be widespread harassment of opposition election workers and abuse by the government of state facilities to support their candidate, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych.

A large number of international bodies have expressed concern with the manner in which the electoral process. It is imperative that these elections abide to general European practice, and that the attempts by the government to restrict opposition access to the media, hold rallies and canvass support must be ceased immediately. read full story / add a comment

Kerry is America's oldest friend, and a true one at that. When the first Kerry man, Brendan, set foot in America circa 575 AD it created a unique link between the lands and a close bond between their peoples. Over the centuries millions of Kerry people have journeyed across the atlantic to our western neighbour, America. These people and their descendants played a hugh part in the building of that great nation, that land of freedom. Also, over the years, millions of Americans have come to visit Kerry the land of their ancestors.
Recently, we in Kerry have become concerned about what is happening across the water. It appears that America is currently ruled by a president and political regime who both lie to, and, manipulate our American friends. This results in restriction of freedom and human rights. Also, by lying to other nations, violating and ignoring international laws, treaties and conventions, America's respect and credibility around the globe is waning. read full story / add a comment
