The WHO once aimed to help nations stand on their own two feet, but now it mainly pushes the agendas of the rich and powerful, says Dr David Bell. That's why it cares more about experimental vaccines than basic sanitation.

Is Rishi Sunak English? Prof Eric Kaufmann says yes, by nationality, but not by ethnicity. It's a subject that typically produces more heat than light, but that's because people don't pin down their terms.

The Elon Musk witch hunt is a key test for the Royal Society, says Prof Abhishek Saha. Activist academics are piling on the pressure to expel the technological pioneer. Does the society stand for science or not?

Yesterday I went to the Burger King on O'Connell Street and got a take away meal. I left the joint to meet with my mates in McDonalds. After a few minutes the manager came up to me and took my meal off me saying "next time you eat in here make sure it's McDonalds". He then dumped it in the bin. It wasn't even half ate and it really annoyed me cause he actually threw away my donought which was in a plain brown bag on the middle of the table. read full story / add a comment

Lobby SIPTU at Liberty Hall, Thursday 9 October, 11.30am - 1pm.

The Donnycarney residents against the Bin charges want SIPTU to hear directly from us why we oppose the charges. As the main union representing the bin workers we are asking SIPTU to support us in our struggle. We believe the dispute could be over immediately if the unions instructed their members to stick to union policy and lift all bins. We understand SIPTU policy is one of opposition to service charges.

We Invite people from communities across the City and County to join us in our lobby.

Join us and let the trade union leaders know that we expect them to follow their own union policy and to listen to the voices of working people in the communities. Coolock residents against the charges are supporting the lobby.

All are welcome to attend.

As activists in Cork will know, Brian Wallace/David Noone and his motley and tiny assortment of holocaust deniers have been postering the city with their "holocaust did not happen" posters. It goes without saying that these posters (and that associated racist stickers) have not lasted long on the lampposts.

There are now new posters, in German - I think they say "Wahrheit der Deutschland" or something of the sort and advertise a few websites. My German is limited but 'Wahrheit' means 'Truth' or 'Lowdown' and one of the websites (the only one I checked) is that of David Irving.

So tear them down! read full story / add a comment
