Calling Trump a dictator is just silly, says Prof James Allan. Yes, he's bombastic. But he's been elected to secure the border and drain the swamp. And he is the President, in whom all executive authority resides.

I believe that pubs and publicans are finally starting to wake up and smell the coffee; and realise that people will no longer put up with the blatant overcharging that goes on. With sales down; and fewer people going out; and for less; and for shorter times, pubs have begun to bring down their prices. In addition, many pubs have now brought in live entertainment such as bands and ballads; and not before time! For example, my local, the Kilmardinny on Lorcan Avenue in Santry, Dublin, now has ballads and live music on a Wednesday and Saturday nights; and this is starting to draw the crowds back in; and I believe that it is a similar story in other pubs the length and breath of Ireland! read full story / add a comment

All of County Louth measures 82,613 hectares.

Fires have burnt at least 134,500 hectares (337,000 acres) of Portuguese forest from July to August, more than in all of 2004, according to forestry service estimates last week.

2,700 firefighters were battling 35 fires on Sunday afternoon. Neighbouring Galicia in Spain wants to be declared a disaster area as well, as of this morning 17 fires were still burning 6 of them considered critical. In august alone 17,000 hectares have been burnt. read full story / add a comment

Photos of todays parade will be posted in the coming days. The parade itself was the largest IRSM event in Derry in years. The three bands deserve great credit, the Belfast RS Matyrs, Strabane/Derry RSM Memorial Flute band and the Kevin Lynch Memorial Flute Band were all excellent, as was the Colour Party. The weather was superb, too hot for some, and the turnout surpassed expectations. A big thank you to all who turned out to make this event special and onward to next year which marks the twenty fifth anniversary of the hungerstrikes. read full story / add a comment
