The end of Michael McDowell’s five-year reign in the Department of Justice is great news for everyone who wants an Ireland free from racism. His period as justice minister was marked by a cruel determination to attack the rights of people from other countries. He presided over a rotten system that routinely refused 92 per cent of people looking for asylum. His deportation mania led him to break up families and send snatch squads into schools. He took away the citizenship of children born and reared in Ireland, promoting racist prejudice in the process. read full story / add a comment

It is unbelievable to hear the news about a 12 years old girl, brutally killed by her father because he suspected her of having a relationship with their 24-year-old male neighbour. Amina was killed on the 5th May 2007 by her own father in their house opposite the Ministry of Human Rights in Erbil, Kurdistan. Amina’s father is said to be a PUK military official who has not been charged or even punished for killing his daughter up until now. It is said that Amina begged her father not to kill her, and that she kissed her father’s feet twice for mercy. He was cruel enough to ignore his 12 years old daughter’s innocent plea and killed her in cold blood. read full story / add a comment

This year, the International Labour Organization will yet again accept puppet delegations from Iran at the ILO Annual Conference. This is what the militant workers at Iran Khodro have to say about the Iranian delegation to the ILO: We, the “Iran Khodro” workers, consider your acceptance of these individuals as “Iranian Workers’ Representatives” as neglecting the ILO Laws specially contravening conventions of 98 & 87. We, “Iran Khodro” Workers do not consider these individuals as our rightful representatives and demand for their expulsion from the ILO meeting. Dublin Shell to Sea escalated its campaign against Shell’s command centre at Corrib house on Leeson Street with a blockade of all three entrances. After two hours only four Shell employees had been pushed through the blockade by the large force of Gardai on hand. The action was called to "highlight the incredible theft of our natural resources that totals 51 billion euros in the Corrib field alone" while "each winter, up to 3,000 people die prematurely every year from fuel poverty". Upwards of 45 protesters had assembled with Shell being protected by around 30 Gardai and a number of private security. read full story / add a comment
