Now I believe that all of the Native American soldiers and marines over there in Iraq, along with every one of the Black and Hispanic troopers who, put together, make up sixty percent of the U.S. military's front line, should be asking themselves, "Why are we doing the white man's dirty work?" read full story / add a comment

MAYDAY 003: the parade of the euro precariat Blair, Aznar, Berlusconi: what do they share in common? All the three of them are Bush's allies in his war of aggression against Irak and the people living there. A war to achieve control of the world and to kill at birth any chance of a European social project, built from below by the new transnational movements for global democracy. read full story / add a comment

Word just coming to me of a group set to go and meet colin powell in Belgium (NATO) today. Support gaining strength for a group (name unknown) of Iraqi people residing in Belgium set to launch an intense effort to indict him for war crimes while on Belgian soil. Speculation is (reliable but infrequent source) that Powell appeared nervous about such action today. This weekend in Brussells there will be a BBQ outside the US embassy (Saturday) and a Reclaim The Streets party Sunday. Appologies for lack of further information. If anyone has more contact with people on the ground there please post. Unlikely that Powell will get arrested, but this could yet be a good advertisement of his crimes, the ill-will directed at him and the determination of people to bring him to justice. read full story / add a comment

Due to practical issues (stuff being scattered around various parts of Limerick and Dublin after coming out of prison), I am only now, with apologies to Karen, posting this letter she wrote in March. It's timely, however, after the Gardai's display at last night's peaceful sit-down protest, to remember that there is someone still in prison for civil disobedience relating to Shannon, refusing to co-operate with bail conditions on the basis that she does not believe she committed a criminal act. Five TDs and one senator agree, and called for our charges to be dropped at a press conference yesterday, along with those of Mary Kelly. In light of Ed Horgan's case before the high court, Karen's reflections on sections of the Irish constitution are also relevant and timely. - Deirdre. read full story / add a comment

As a supporter of this site I was very disappointed to see people were picketing Barry Andrews office last week. Calling him a war mongerer is out of line as he was the only FF td to put down a Dail motion seeking the Govt not to support the war in Iraq without a 2nd UN resolution. This must be some better targets within FF than Barry and he seems like such a nice young fellow as well. read full story / add a comment

Over three years have passed since the three-day killing spree in the village of El-Kosheh that left 21 Christians murdered, 33 Christians wounded, and 260 Christian homes and businesses destroyed. In a blatant disregard for justice, Egypt’s courts today acquitted 93 of the 96 defendants. The court’s verdict is a grave disappointment for Egypt’s Christian community who remain exasperated by several failed attempts to ensure justice and equity read full story / add a comment |
