Workers and service users of the Irish Wheelchair Association are protesting today about a 33% cut in FAS funding which will result in over half of their current staff being let go in the next 12 months. A number of people with banners were parading down O’Connell St. at lunch time, followed by a fleet of IWA coaches to protest at these cuts. I presume they were on their way to the Dail to register a formal complaint there. It seems a bit ironic as Ireland is hosting the Special Olympics over the coming weeks that yet again the most vulnerable sections of society are being hit by funding cuts. read full story / add a comment
