While we all agonise about whether our Industry , Agriculture , and all Human activity and endeavour may be responsible for Climate Change there is a theory that cosmic radiation could be responsible for inordinate cloud cover - both Global warming and cooling may be explained by the formation of cloud cover due to solar wind particles which gather about them clouds. Maybe its a cop out . But Maybe not read full story / add a comment

Cowen seems more beaten by the day. The easy clichéd sound bites gone. He appears hunched, shuffling; or frozen in fright like the deer in the head lamp, He has inherited a terrible legacy , but one which he contributed to its making in very substantial manner. The game is up Like Brown in the UK - he too is unlucky, unpopular, lingering in from day to day, never knowing the moment to go to the country. read full story / add a comment

8pm, Friday, 15th January in Solidarity Books, 43 Douglas Street. This is the story about how 5-6 full time activists, and 20 or so part time union activists succeeded in organising thousands of workers across 6 hospitals in Las Vegas, a city in the middle of a desert, with no history of union organising. It is rare that you find out the nuts and bolts of how people bring about change on the ground, and there is a lot to think about in his talk. While Cork is a long way from Las Vegas, there are things here that we, as activists, need to learn about. read full story / add a comment

In the past hour, the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) received the following urgent updates from the port of Al-Arish in Egypt, where the Gaza aid convoy, which includes several Irish people and three Irish vehicles, is currently surrounded by riot police. It is unclear how the situation will unfold, though the convoy was meant to travel into Gaza tomorrow, with its much-needed humanitarian aid. The first report is by text from Tyrone man John Hurson. The second report is from Kevin Ovenden, one of the chief organisers of the convoy. read full story / add a comment

Comments by the Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern that the annual security bill at Shannon for US military traffic is justified (Irish Examiner, 4 Jan) shows scant regard for the lives or human rights of the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. The bill of more than 3 million euro a year is spent facilitating occupying forces that cause ongoing fear, suffering and violent civilian death in both countries. And while the movement of troops is estimated to have been worth around 7 million euro to the airport in 2009, for this we have abandoned all traces of neutrality, international humanitarian law and respect for human rights. read full story / add a comment
