AS SAOIRSE went to press eight men were charged in the Dublin Special non-jury Court with IRA membership.

The circumstances of their arrest on Sunday, August 3 in County Waterford are just coming to light. SAOIRSE has learned that two of the nine men, including the man who was released after 48 hours, were seriously assaulted by the 26-County police at the time of their arrest. In fact John Devane, solicitor, requested that medical attention be given to the two men he visited in lacerations and bruising. read full story / add a comment

In a recent interview with Sunday Independent, O'Leary has expressed his admiration for the legacy of Haughey. He particularily admired CJ's "can-do" spirit and highlights his involvement in the development of Temple Bar as an example of this legacy.

This praise comes from a man who asked the winner of free air travel with Ryanair for life "who the hell did she think she was demanding free travel" and actually went to court to defend the fraud.

Ryanairs addiction to fradulent advertising has hopefully been knocked back by a court in Cologne which has ruled that an airfield 70 km from Dusseldorf is not actually in Dusseldorf. Doubtless Mr. O'Leary wishes the corrupt Helmut Kohl was back in power in Germany to show some "can-do" spirit. read full story / add a comment

Two of the groups campaigning for the survival of the Welsh language will join forces to draw attention to the housing crisis in the language’s heartlands. During Wales’ leading cultural festival and one of the biggest in Europe, the National Eisteddfod, which is on from 2nd to the 9th August, Cymuned (Community) and Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (The Welsh Language Society) will come together for the first time to mount a joint protest on the Eisteddfod field. According to the joint organisers, the purpose of the protest is ‘to draw attention to the housing crisis that is undermining communities across Wales, and to stress certain steps the Welsh Assembly Government could take to get to grips with the problem’. read full story / add a comment

The Carrickmines Castle Website is now back up.

The alternative plan for the Carrickmines section of the M50 motorway can be found at:

The plan describes how the road can be built and the castle preserved.
A win-win solution to corruption in the planning process.
