Commenting on David Cameron’s recent speech, Martin Óg Meehan of the Republican Network for Unity (RNU) said; “In a few sentences the Tory Leader has confirmed what so many of us have believed since its inception. The path to Irish unity does not exist on the pages of the Good Friday Agreement, in fact it is filled with myths and illusions foisted upon Republicans for 12 years. Those who voiced their concerns on this aspect alone have been the brunt of smear campaigns, intimidation and political policing. read full story / add a comment

Yassamine Mather writes on how the sanctions against Iran have developed into Warfare. But in thiis case the Imperialist-Zionist attack consists of Cyber Warfare. Full text at link.

While Israel, the US and Britain keep up their rhetoric of ultimatums and threats against Iran, and escalate the siege warfare of economic sanctions, Hands Off the People of Iran has been warning of the very real and ominous danger of a so-called pre-emptive attack. Now things have taken an unexpected and dangerous turn. Throughout the last couple of months Iran’s nuclear plants as well as a number of major industrial complexes have been targeted by a sophisticated piece of malware: Stuxnet. read full story / add a comment

Smithfield HORSE market in Dublin 7 is held on the first Sunday of every month. It has been held every month for almost 280 years. Last Sunday the scene there was akin to a scene from Mad Max the movie. A tiny foal was abandoned in a sad neglected condition, two punch ups broke out with crowds charging dangerously to get a closer look. A man was spotted carrying a sword and Sulkies and 4-wheeled carts were raced around the roads despite the best efforts by Gardai to stop this. The incidents of two wheeled carts being ridden with distressed horses and at immense speed around the city roads are increasing at an alarming rate.

Book Launch & Street Art Events - Cork Saturday 16th October

London-based photo-journalist William Parry will be in Ireland to launch his new book about Resistance Art in Palestine. The book, Against the Wall – The Art of Resistance in Palestine, is a stunning collection of photographs that capture the graffiti and art which have transformed Israel's wall into a living canvas of resistance and solidarity. Featuring the work of artists including Banksy, Ron English, Blu and others, as well as Palestinian artists and activists, these photos express outrage, compassion, and touching humour. They illustrate the wall's toll on lives and livelihoods, showing the hardship it has brought to tens of thousands of people, preventing their access to work, education and vital medical care. Mixed with the photos are portraits and vignettes, offering a heartfelt and inspiring account of a people determined to uphold their dignity in the face of profound injustice. read full story / add a comment

Professor Lars Mjøset, University of Oslo, Norway:

Butler House, 16 Patrick Street, Kilkenny
Friday 15th October at 7.30 p.m.

Ireland Institute, 27 Pearse Street, Dublin
Saturday 16th October at 3.00 p.m.

Farmer, economist, development theorist, historian, and political activist, Raymond Crotty (1925-94) was one of the most original thinkers to come out of modern Ireland.

He made history with his successful constitutional action in 1987 against the Government's attempt to ratify the EU's Single European Act Treaty by simple Dail majority vote instead of by popular referendum.

Holding strong radical views, his advocacy of a land tax as a means of putting pressure on Irish landowners to use their land more productively pitted him against powerful vested interests. read full story / add a comment
