Pirates Granuaile and Mad Maguire M.C. ed a fabulous array of local talent and general madness last thursday night in the Victoria Hotel in Cork. They also proved superb at evicting a troublesome man known by us to have Nazi involvement ! It was great to see lots of new faces at this fundraiser for shell to sea after the past few weeks of intense activity. read full story / add a comment

The second outing of the literary festival, 'The Forge At Gort,' will take place in Gort, Co. Galway, on March 27th and 28th, 2009, organised by The Western Writers' Centre, Ionad Scribhneoiri Chaitlin Maud, Galway. Last year saw the inauguration of the festival, which is based in the concept of the W.B.Yeats' poem which mentions the still extant forge in Gort's main street. In a period of mass unemployment in 1920's Germany fascism came to power despite not only the presence of mass Communist and Social Democratic parties but also of significant anti-fascist street fighting. Why did the left fail and what was the attraction of fascism. What about fascist movements today, do they represent a similar threat?
