One of Ireland’s youngest councillor’s Johnny McGibbon has today signalled the beginning of a major recruitment drive for Sinn Féin.

In keeping with the Valentine’s Day spirit, the 21 year old elected activist is urging a simple message, ‘If you love Ireland, Join Sinn Féin.’

His words came as Ógra Shinn Féin activists distributed thousands of ‘I ♥ Ireland’ stickers across Ireland today.

The recruitment drive will also include the distribution of tens of thousands of leaflets, special public talks aimed at gaining new members and the launch of a new recruitment video.

Amnesty International Irish Section activists distributed Valentine’s roses to Dubliners at O’Connell Bridge today in solidarity with human rights campaigners in Zimbabwe. It follows incidents in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, yesterday where police attacked members of Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) who were taking part in their annual Valentine’s protest where roses are handed out to the general public and the police. read full story / add a comment
