It is that time of year again, the time to attack Catholics, or 'taigs', as they are known in unionist parlance. It comes around every year alongside the Orange Order's determination to go into frenzied celebration of its Protestant and ‘British' way of life. It's a bit like if, in Britain, the British National Party decided every year to 'celebrate' Britishness, and this was accompanied by attacks on black people or Muslims, accompanied by thousands of marches, mainly through the areas were the people subject to the attacks live. But wait, that "thousands" can't be right. In Northern Ireland there are over 2,000 marches every year between Easter and late August. Why, that would translate in Britain into tens of thousands of marches. Yes, that sounds about right. read full story / add a comment

On Monday the 2nd of July, a group of around 20 Youth Defence distributed their anti-abortion material throughout the city of Limerick. One of the points upon which they decided to mobilise was the Limerick Family planning clinic (27 Mallow Street, Limerick. Tel: 061 312 02). It is in this building that men and woman go to get information on matters of contraception and abortion clinics . Pro-choice activists believe that women should have access to safe and legal abortion and, equally, that women should be protected from forced abortions.About 5 left wing activists staged a counter protest on the doors of the clinic for the majority of the time the extremists were present. read full story / add a comment

The theme of which was ‘transport – the future journey’.
