Peader de Bluit Tá seanfhocal ciallmhar sa Gaeilge a deir, "Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí". Tá nath ábharaín éagsúil ag an gluaiseacht seo áfach. Is minic na laethanta go gcloistear á rá, "Mol an Ógra agus tiocfaidh siad". Tá an meoin seo ag fás le tamaill agus an t-aos óg sa gluaiseacht ag iarraidh tógáil, agus béim a cur ar pholaitíocht óige. Sé sin le rá go mbeadh inchur níos mó ag an t-aos óg, todhchaí na gluaiseachta agus na tíre, i gcúrsaí ar leith. read full story / add a comment

The case concerns seven Chinese females all working for Klean Fit limited located at unit 1, Old River House, Templegoue, Dublin 6 West. The dispute arises with the owner of the company, Ms. Anita Ryan, who has issued a series of bounced cheques to the workers as wage payment. This now results with the employer owing the workers 11,323.51 euro between them......... read full story / add a comment

On the morning of Monday 18th of June. The squatted autonomous social centre Villa squattus dei in Leuven Belgium was evicted. The Eviction came without warning, giving the squatters no chance to remove their belongings. Thankfully as the squat had only been used as a social centre for the last few months and not as living space, no one was inside, and no arrests were made. The contents of the house were emptied into a skip. read full story / add a comment

FACT: 50% of those who die by suicide in Ireland are under 35 years old Young people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives are being encouraged to talk to others about it in an innovative national mental health promotion campaign called ‘Tough Times’, which launched on June 19th. The campaign encourages young people to realise that it’s normal to experience difficult times and that, however small or big the problem, there are help and support options available. It points young people towards www.spunout.ie, which provides factsheets on a range of health and lifestyle issues, signposts users to relevant help services throughout the country and gives young people a platform to air their views. read full story / add a comment

On Thur 3rd May 2007 at Westport District Court, I successfully applied for summonses and initiated prosecutions against 3 members of An Garda Síochána, Belmullet, Co Mayo, who were then summonsed to appear to answer charges of assault, criminal damage and theft at Belmullet District Court on 13th June. On Wed 13th June 2007 at Belmullet District Court, I failed to bring the case to a full hearing, because of a number of avoidable mistakes that I made, one of which proved to my undoing, whereby the judge put a stop to me proceeding any further with these summonses. This article is an account of my days in court, including the procedures I went through to initiate the prosecutions and the mistakes I made in failing, at this stage, to bring the proceedings to the proper conclusion of a trial. I hope others can learn from my experience, avoid the pitfalls, and be encouraged to bring their own prosecutions against criminal Gardaí, in order to stop their violence and the cowardly abuse of their power. read full story / add a comment

Two interesting pieces in the Irish Times yesterday, one an article by Lorna Siggins, the other a letter correcting the rather peculiar editorial last week, which likened the dispute in Mayo to an Ealing Comedy film. Many people inside and outside the campaign are keeping a close eye on Eamon Ryan, and wondering whether he will meet with the Shell to Sea campaign before he meets with Shell. Ryan has a supporter of Shell to Sea for a long time, and now he finds himself in charge of the project to get gas from the Corrib Field. It will be interesting to see what his reaction will be when the Gardaí use brutal tactics and start arresting protesters against Shell in Erris and in other parts of the country. The 29th of June is the second anniversary of the imprisonment of the Rossport Five. Perhaps the new minister will mark the occasion by making a statement on the current situation. read full story / add a comment

http://athens.indymedia.org/local/webcast/uploads/asfal...s.avi On the 24th of June 2006, at least four policemen tortured two migrants in the police station of Omonia in central Athens. They forced them to beat each other, beat them both and captured the torturing on a mobile phone camera. For nearly a year, that footage was circulated amongst policemen via mobile phones. On the early hours of the 16th of June 2007 the video was uploaded to a commercial video sharing service and from there, to Athens Indymedia. A few hours later it featured as breaking news in Greece's major media outlets, forcing prime minister Karamanlis to issue a statement condemning the incident. read full story / add a comment
