If you think the disability bill recently passed in the Dail has nothing to do with you, you should think again. If passed into legislation, it represents a major assault on all our constitutional rights. This column has no political allegiance and is concerned with the interests of disabled people and the contribution they can make to the wider community. A mother today claimed in court that her 16-year-old son was left in a state of concussion and had baton marks on his back after he was beaten by gardaí. The teenager had been due to appear in the Dublin Children’s Court over a theft charge but was not present for the proceedings. Both of his parents were present and claimed that their son could was not in a fit state to make it to court and because he was at home resting. read full story / add a comment

Get this. Andrew Gilligan from the evening standard, who exposed the dodgy dossier was caught infiltrating the anarchist assembly. Amazingly few people recognised him. Once outedrecording the meeting - his bag was confiscated and his notes taken after a melee stopping him leaving the building. The Irish who were corralled by the police were released finally after about three hours, desperate for a pee, but otherwise unharmed. Some of the other Irish clown army had gone down earlier to show support, chanting ‘you are not allow’ and generally making a fool of themselves in front of the police. Outside the Forrest Café and the Indymedia centre, soundsystems entertained the crowd who drank and danced in the street late into the evening. read full story / add a comment
