RTÉ Primetime Investigates next Thursday is a special on the death of Michael Dwyer. Dwyer worked for Shell as a security guard in Mayo last year, and while there, made contact with extremists from right-wing militia groups. He joined with a number of these men and spent time in Bolivia, where after an investigation he was killed when police stormed his hotel room. Goodooga, northwest NSW, 26 November – Euahlayi activist Michael Anderson says the organisation being put together by Tom Calma totally ignores the more aggressive Aboriginal voices and will have prominent conservative Aborigines as key stakeholders. Michael Dwyer was an employee of Irish based company Integrated Risk Management Services IRMS through whom it appears he made contact with international mercenaries and travelled to Bolivia. Bolivian civil society groups in Europe have called on Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Martin to fully investigate the activities of this company which also provides security services to Shell in Rosport as well as to Fianna Fail during its annual conferences. read full story / add a comment

Following the temporary withdrawal of the International Solidarity Movement from Hebron due to that organisations difficulty in finding a suitable base there, a number of internationals from the village of Bil'in journeyed down there last week to take up the slack with night patrols, checkpoint monitoring and especially the safeguarding of Palestinian children to and from school from stone throwing, spitting Israeli "settler children and adults. Four in number, we found accomodation in the homes of the Al-Awawi and Egnabi families,previously fire bombed by the colonising "settlers" and illegally evicted but both families still overflowing with the milk of human kindness despite their travails. read full story / add a comment ![]()

At the invitation of Guerrero based ´Tlachinollan Human Rights Centre´ I had the inspiring opportunity to witness an historic event last Wed (18th nov 2009): Two indigenous women, both former Amnesty International prisoners of conscience left their communities once more to make a trip to a Mexican Jail. This time however instead of being accompanied by their arresting officers, they went along with a group of local, national and international human rights organisations to make a solidarity visit to another indigenous activist and Amnesty International prisoner of conscience, Raul Hernandez. read full story / add a comment |
