The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) today welcomed the findings of the UN Human Rights Council investigation into Israel’s attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla and called for the Irish Government to take action to sanction Israel over its illegal raid. The report found that Israel’s siege of Gaza is illegal and therefore the assault on the flotilla, which left nine people dead, was also illegal. Its findings also made clear that Israeli forces had unlawfully executed at least six people at sea, and used “extreme” and “unnecessary” violence against people – including Irish nationals - both at sea and in captivity. read full story / add a comment

Larry Murpy was arrested by the gardai, after he kidnapped a woman and raped her,and was very close to killing her..Only for two deer hunters, actually came across her in a distressed state, muddied, bloodied, and with no clothing, she was brought into her local garda station by these two men,who then later tried to catch larry murphy with the gards in tow. He was also suspected of killing a number of other women, and was even one of the top names on ireland's cold case list.. It is evident the irish justice system has let us down, when a man of such evil can not only walk the streets of ireland, but of spain. As there is no RESTRICTION on suspected serial killers,(who are freed by the irish judicial system) travelling throughout Europe.. He was released 5 years early on good behavior, good behavior should be relevant to the crime committed..and in a cell with other predominantly male prison guards, surrounding the cells, how can this be proven. read full story / add a comment

Press Release, Monday 20th September 2010, 9pm The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) tonight welcomed a motion passed by Dublin City Council which condemned “the Israeli attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla’s aid mission that resulted in deaths and injuries of many of those attempting to bring much needed aid” to the besieged Gaza Strip and called for support for the Irish Ship To Gaza campaign and the Second Freedom Flotilla due to depart in late October. This film documentary is about the traditional role of the midwife. It opens with a re-enactment of calling the midwife in a West Cork village where one of the first trained midwives lived and worked above Levis's pub (unchanged to this day). Her niece (now 101yrs old) still lives in the pub and recalls fathers coming in a pony and trap & waking the midwife. Women tell stories and cine footage of the old days combine with beautiful scenery to depict the traditional role of the midwife. University lecturers and midwife teachers are interviewed about what it might mean for midwives and women if the skills of the community midwife are wiped out altogether in Ireland (there are only 17 Independent midwives practising outside of hospitals). read full story / add a comment

FAS,the troubled state agency has lost all credibility, and this has not just been recently, this has been happening for years, with the government of the state 'training educational' agency, standing by still in support of these 'services',to provide free labour, and continue to not pay the people making FAS happen, the ce workers.FAS pay employers who take on their FAS employees hundreds of euros, while the FAS ce or apprentices, get paid by social welfare, this is not a system that works for the unemployed, currently only 3 % of former fas workers are employed in the jobs market,so what good has FAS done for the unemployed minus themselves and thier business associates apart from making the dole stats look good, what use is that when FAS are draining our economy and providing no job oppurtunities across the board. brainstorming for a new name will not solve the old problems in the well heeled FAS senior management. read full story / add a comment

Full text at link. Peter Tatchell who has a track record of opposing other dictators such as Mugabe said: "This is not an attack on Catholic people or the Catholic faith. We are critical of certain policies of the Pope. When he says no woman is fit to be a priest, that's an insult to the whole of female humanity. When he says a husband must not use a condom to protect his wife from infection - even if he has HIV - that's irresponsible." read full story / add a comment
