The community sector is being urged to sit up and take action to prevent it being seen as an easy target by both the Assembly and Westminster when the budget cuts are finalised.

The call came at a public meeting in Omagh on Thursday night (17th February) organised by trade union SIPTU, which addressed how vulnerable the community sector will be to the budget cuts.

The crowd was made up of a cross section of local councillors, community group and resident association representatives from the Omagh area.

The Circle (information below), a film directed by Jafar Panahi will be shown and the 'Free Panahi! Free all political prisoners!' campaign will be launched. Jafar Panahi has had a savage six-year jail sentence imposed on him, plus a 20-year ban on making films and travelling abroad, for the 'crime' of planning to make a film about the mass movement for democracy that spilled onto the streets of major iranian cities in 2009. read full story / add a comment

Gholam-Reza Khademizadeh, the head of the Supreme Association of Labour Associations (SALA), has announced that 43 per cent of Iranian workers live under the poverty line. This is a big admission by the leader of one of the Iranian regime’s bogus so-called labour organisations. Fathollah Bayat, the leader of another fake pro-regime organisation, the Union of Contract Workers, has gone even further by saying that 85 per cent of urban households live below the absolute poverty line! read full story / add a comment

Word is out right now that Fine Gael—should they get into government—are going to reverse the hard fought ban on the Ward Union carted stag hunt. Should the party get their wicked way and repeal this only piece of legislation, it will set our movement in Ireland back and will cast a dark day for all campaigning to bring about an end to cruelty to animals. read full story / add a comment

The past World Week for the Abolition of Meat from 22 to 29 January 2011 - the very first WWAM of the year - was a success. Varied events (such as street actions, silent demonstrations, "human" meat tray actions, protest marches...) were organized in over 70 towns and cities, mainly in Europe, but also in South Africa, in both Americas, in India as well as in Japan (here's the list). These events were largely covered in the media.

Please print AFAR's poster calling on all voters to make use of their vote to keep Fine Gael out of power.

The majority of normal people do not want Stag hunting legalised again, even if the ban is not being enforced.

Place this poster in a prominent place to let people know how cruel they intend to be , that is if they get into Government.
They want STAG-HUNTING back!!! Its really unbelieveable. read full story / add a comment
