As Israel appears to be winding down – at least temporarily – its slaughter, and Gaza starts to disappear from the news, we believe it is important that we not allow the issue of Palestine to slip off the public radar. Now is the time to reinforce one of the key demands of the Palestinian liberation movement – “Boycott Israeli Goods”. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Belcoo was awoken at 5 in the morning on the July 21st to the invasion of Tamboran. It wasn't until later that morning that the frackers had the 'courtesy' to send local residence notice of their occupation of a nearby quarry. Immediately a demonstration outside the quarry gates was organized for that evening. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Greystones Harbour was opened to the public almost two years ago, in November 2012. The marina opened for summer 2013. However, despite written agreements and promises from the developer, the commercial fishers of Greystones have been refused access to the harbour and promised berths or moorings have not been offered to us. We are today entering the harbour and landing freshly caught fish, against regulations, as a protest against this continued exclusion from the harbour, which only two weeks ago included the removal of mooring cleats from the harbour’s north pier in order to prevent boats tying up. read full story / add a comment ![]()

NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION - “It is time for freedom and justice for Palestine" The IPSC has put out a call to make the 5th protest for Gaza to take place on a Saturday in Dublin a national demonstration. Details are below. As the death toll in Israel’s latest onslaught on Gaza surpasses 1,800, actions have been called around Ireland taking place this week and next. It’s important that as many people as possible turn out to show their solidarity with the Palestinians people under attack, their opposition to this latest round of brutal attacks on Gaza, and their anger at political inaction and media misreporting of the issue. read full story / add a comment ![]()

The filming of scenes for Star Wars: Episode VII began yesterday on Skellig Michael in Co Kerry. Many have expressed outrage at the underhanded way in which this information was kept from the Irish public until a few days ago. The Irish Independent has learnt that when negotiations began over six months ago it was feared if news of the proposed filming leaked out it could attract opposition from conservation groups. Also, At a time when Gaza is suffering a genocide at the hands of the Israeli government, the Irish government has underhandedly permitted Disney, (a company which is on every boycott list of companies which support Israel), who acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 for $4.05 billion (wiki), to come into Ireland and film on one of our most sacred and ancient sites. read full story / add a comment ![]()

the NCT was brought in to inject life into the flagging motor sales industry in celtic tiger days, and to create lucrative business opportunites for some lucky people who happened to well connected and in the loop. It's all a bit of a money making scam, which targets the poor disproportionally, gives gardai draconian powers of seizure. Chronic delays in the test system, not to mention reports of corrupt practices make the thing a nightmare for the less well off trying to keep a vehicle on the road in order to increase their chances of finding work. Just another obstacle put in the way of the poorer classes which serves to limit their possibilities and their movements. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Today 2/8/14, on the 3 month anniversary of the Odessa massacre, we joined in with comrades outside of the Ukrainian embassy in Dublin to tell the Kiev regime - stop the Slaughter of innocent civilians. To date there has been over 1000 people killed. What's happening in Ukraine is appalling, it's a total massacre of innocent civilians. Atrocities are being committed by the Fascist Kiev Junta and here the media and the political class are ignoring it altogether. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Good Energies Alliance Ireland (GEAI) views the latest developments where preparations for shale gas exploratory drilling has begun in Belcoo as a National, not local issue. Dr Aedin McLoughlin, Director GEAI, expressed extreme dismay. “Make no mistake about it – any exploratory drilling, with or without hydraulic fracturing, is part of the overall fracking process,” she said. “An exploratory well without hydraulic fracturing leads to more wells with “test fracks”, leading to full fracking as shale gas is extracted. In Belcoo, the first stage is starting, with the industry bleating their mantra, “This is only drilling, it’s not fracking!” When is fracking not fracking? When the industry wants to hide what is obvious – that a good result from this first exploratory well could lead on to more wells and more wells and a full-scale fracking operation with all its environmental and social issues.” read full story / add a comment ![]()

The WSM have produced an article that puts in context the way the Palestinian land has been stolen from them by the Israeli state. For the size of its population Ireland has seen very large Gaza solidarity demonstrations. It is also one of the few places in the world outside the USA where there has been public displays of support for the Israeli military assault. Internationally there are many variations of this map where activists present to their population what the expulsion of the Palestinians from much of the land they once occupied would look like in a local context. One of our members prepared this but we soon realised its an impossible image to post without some reflection on our own settler colonialist past. read full story / add a comment ![]()

On Friday the 11th July, people started gathering for the art weekend in which murals and new campaign banner and signs were prepared. Straight away work on the house with the mural “The struggle goes on” was started along with the sign on the roof which reads “Strength in Community”. Saturday wasn’t suitable for outside work so after a fair while designing what the signs should say, work commenced at a shed which we were kindly given the use of for the weekend. read full story / add a comment ![]()
