I'd like to know more about Media Lab (MIT). I thought MLE had shut down on Jan 14th this year through lack of funding. Luckily, I recorded a lecture given by Gary McDerby (Principal Rsearch Scientist at Media Lab Europe) in April 2004, and what I heard, I found to be disconcerting – coming to an appliance near you. read full story / add a comment

Immigration police seized several families across Ireland this morning (Tue Oct 18th) and brought them to Dublin for summary deportation. Among those detained was the family of a writer. He had sent them to Ireland so that they would be safe from the repercussions of his writings which are critical of drug dealers in the country in which he resides. An attempted blockade of the Garda National Immigration Bureau premises in Dublin has resulted in arrests and is ongoing. read full story / add a comment

This 25 min mp3 soundscape can be heard directly on broadband by clicking http://radio.indymedia.org/uploads/2004.10.11-columbusday.mp3 or right-click it to download on any connection. It was recorded at the US Embassy, October 11th, 2004, to mark a fitting commemoration of Columbus Day and its significance. The vigil was organised by the Pit Stop Ploughshares/Dublin Catholic Worker who are on trial at the Four Courts on october 24th 2004 for disarming a US navy plane in a non-violent action at Shannon Warport. Sustained organisation of events such as this over the past three years show that the action against the warplanea was no stunt, but a logical direct action manifestation of consistent anti-war morality. original link: http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=66842&search_text=Columbus%20Day Pit Stop Ploughshares Website: read full story / add a comment

Over the years Hiphop Kulture has constantly remained under attack by the main cultures of the world who fear the loss of control over the new emerging generations. From the early Emcees and Deejays who were arrested during the park jams to the early Breakers who too were arrested for dancing on the streets; to the new “Hiphop Task Forces” monitoring Hiphoppas in the same way they monitor street gangs; and the recent attempts by some countries to ban “repetitive beats” and the wearing of hoodies. read full story / add a comment |
