Tramore, Co. Waterford home to a three mile beach, sand dunes, back strand lagoon, wildlife sanctuary and landfill. For years commercial and residential waste has been ‘legally’ dumped on the back of this beach. At high tide and times of flooding some of the waste ‘conveniently’ gets washed out to sea or washed onto the shore. There is also a great deal of leachate soaking into the water and surrounding soil and sand. This environmental catastrophe has gone largely unnoticed in the past and has been successfully concealed from public knowledge. The plan is to raise public awareness and highlight this as in issue in a number of different stages.
