It has been confirmed that among the speakers at the Anti-War Ireland (AWI) demonstration at Shannon on Saturday, 28 October, will be three US Iraq War veterans, all of whom served together as interrogators at the infamous Abu-Ghraib prison. The three - who were in the same military battalion - have since completely rejected the war and are members of Iraq Veterans Against the War. Tony Lagouranis, Joshua Casteel and Stephen Lewis are travelling to Ireland especially for the Shannon demo on 28th October, but will also speak at AWI public meetings both north and south. For information on Tony Lagouranis, a recent interview can be found at the following link: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/torture/intervi....html A profile of Joshua Casteel can be read at: http://www.ivaw.org/user/47 read full story / add a comment

She was a young mother of an eight year old boy. She was black. She ran a food market in the city centre. The report of an attack and kids leaving the scene of her attack was called in at 4.37am. Communities need to make the kids own to what they have done to the woman and her family. This is the second such violent attack on a car which was occupied. Two children were severely burnt in the Moyross area recently. Their family home has been attacked recently. Social exclusion has reached a new level of low in this instance. read full story / add a comment

Sinn Féin Natural Resources spokesperson Martin Ferris TD has called on people to support solidarity protests against Shell facilities across Ireland in the wake of further clashes and reports of assaults by Gardaí on protestors at the Bellanaboy site. In a strongly worded statement, Deputy Ferris accused Shell of reliance on ‘dodgy polling, brute force and scab labour’ as proof of how isolated their position is and said the company is prepared to ‘lie, cheat and intimidate’ to get its way. read full story / add a comment

The main article on Shell to Sea this weekend was a repeat of Paul Williams earlier story in the Sunday World last weekend. (see: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/78773) These stories concerned Provo intimidation. This is likely to be a recurring theme so I have a good look at it. Shell to Sea was also smeared by the Sunday Times (again) and Saturday’s Mail. The Mail gave positive coverage earlier in the week. There were decent pieces in the Irish Times and in Village, this article just looks at the negative coverage. read full story / add a comment

On More 4 last night I watched a stupendous masterpiece of filmmaking. "Death of a President" a faux documentary is about the future assassination of President George W. Bush in Chicago on Oct 18, 2007 and the human and political fall out his shooting. Told in flash back with archive footage and interviews with a Bush's speechwriter, the dead of the Secret Service Death, the chief FBI investigator into the assassination, a forensic expert, witnesses and many others it has the appearance of a real documentary. read full story / add a comment

In the july-war on Lebanon, as well as Israel as Hizbollah have committed serious human rights viollations and warcrimes against as well the Lebanese civilian population as the Israeli civilian population. Despite the ''justifications'' by both parties, they are both subjective to International Humanitarian Law, which forbids, under all circumstances, military attacks on civilians read full story / add a comment
